it'll tell you all you need to know about the vaporwave genre
wow making eerie sacren satirical pop music to criticize and mock the heavily commercialized and simplification of music? Thats so new and totally unique!
what the fuck is up with this shit? vaporware is literally meme music with trippy/digital aesthetics. the only reason fags brigade the internet with this "muh anticapitalist vaporware" shit is because it made its way over to tumblr
go away
come back when you turn 18
Because some tumblr bimbo happened to come across vaporwave last week and apply their own indoctrination as an interpretation internet culture does not mean it should be taken seriously.
Vaporwave is kinda like throwback of psychedelic music from the 70s and 80s. The meme surrounding the music is that the music is pleasing in sound or "aesthetic"
Can someone explain the difference between vaporwave and retrowave?
this shit makes me laugh
AESTHETICS
>vaporwave
Wut
Thats what it is though, but the funny thing is that its being slowly used by the alt-right.
Am I supposed to pretend like I'm "in on the joke"?
Because when I listen to vaporwave, I just think to myself "this sounds kinda nice"
I don't sit and think "hahahaha yeahhhhh fuck capitalism XDDDD"
Mallsoft is even better.
It just reminds me of random forgotten parts of my childhood that are permanently locked away, and brings them back through an appropriate rose-tinted filter of VHS and Cassette Tape distortion.
Remember the food court pizza place that was right near the arcade? You could hear the faint sound of the games echoing out into the larger space.
Remember when you walked by the GNC or CVS, and you caught a whiff of that smell like vitamin pills and medicine?
Remember the bleachy scent of the overly-chlorinated fountain that you would throw pennies into?
Have a (you) for those memories.
vaporwave and the whole "capitalism" thing is just conjecture brought up by some fedora-tipping autists. yes, it does spoof the campy vibe of commercialism in the 80s but its not an entirely pro or anti capitalist thing.
Why does everything good on this planet have to be ruined by normies.
;-;
Vaporwave is obviously making fun of the 80s and 90s plastic look that was engineered by marketing departments of those times, but it's also tapping in the nostalgia factor because those type of cheesy commercials don't really exist nowadays. Calling it "hurr durr anti capitalism smash the patriarchy" music is what edgelords call it because they have no sense of humor.
This is the feel or "aesthetic" vaporwave is trying to imitate
youtube.com
Stuff that was common back then, but nowadays cheesy but awesome.
TL;DR:
Normies gonna normie, they just don't get it.
so this is the so called vaporware?
what aa shitty meme music
>It's a meme, that makes it shitty!
>I could make that! I just don't feel like doing it ever
>It's just ____ and ____ (even though there are dozens of sub genres that don't even sound similar)
>i don't understand it at all, but here is my opinion anyways
Just fuck off to Sup Forums
This
Vaporwave isn't some "ebin ironic deconstruction" of capitalism, it's a glorification of it
I actually prefer the cheesy marketing of the 80's, just because it was at least sincere with itself and what it was doing.
>I am selling you a product. Please buy this product.
It's much better than the modern hipster bullshit of people trying to wrap their product in 7 layers of self-referential irony.
and to add to that, I get annoyed at this trashy exploitation of patriotism by small town businesses more than nostalgia. When a company covers every inch of their business with american flags. I call it "wal-mart patriotism." Its like they just trick people into buying their shit by exploiting slacktivism, like its the same logic as "ONLY FAGS DONT BUY THIS!" and then the average retard says "h-hey Im notta fag! GIVE ME 5!" And its not just limited to expliting patriotism; Recently businesses have been promoting LGBT shit, and Starbucks and other liberal places usually have a "for every dollar we get, we give 10 cents to third world niggers!" policies.
Im no where near a communism, but I do think capitalism can get out of hand.
>Remember the bleachy scent of the overly-chlorinated fountain that you would throw pennies into?
Vividly. And the cinnamon smell of the food court.
Fact: Many mall smells are actually artificially added via the HVAC system to entice customers to buy stuff.
It's scent marketing.
>It just reminds me of random forgotten parts of my childhood that are permanently locked away, and brings them back through an appropriate rose-tinted filter of VHS and Cassette Tape distortion.

This is exactly what vaporwave was meant to be, but it was diluted when it became a meme. Now there's kids who like it because "meme xd", not because they experienced this.
>never heard it called vaporwave until normies learned of it
>never saw A E S T H E T I C meme until normies started using it
I want you to leave.
vaporwave is trash, it started out as a simple enough idea but turned to garbage faster than any other genre.
It's been hijacked by literally every faggot because somewhere along the line people thought "if i just play a song slow it's vaporwave". Then they got the great idea of taking a theme and just adding "-wave" to it like it makes it a whole different sub-genre.
What a joke.
It paved the way for future funk tho so I give it's normie-ridden decline a pass.
>there are a lot of bad vaporwave songs, so all vaporwave is trash
nigga your opinion is shit, keep it to yourself
I still like it
Fuck normies
youtube.com
Future Funk is the most normalfag of normalfag shit
S U C C
What are some good ones besides Floral Shoppe? I listend to a few other ones, but they were all just basically shitty techno dance music, which I hate.
I want some of that smooth jazz/longue music ambiance
>Normies found vaporwave
It was fun while it lasted
>vaporwave is trash
I don't care. I still like it.
Remember when you walked into an Electronics Store, or unboxed a new toy, and all of the appliances smelled like burnt molded plastic?
The Residents were at least original, nearly all vaporwave songs are slowed down versions of 80s songs nobody really cared about.
required listening for this thread: youtube.com
just cloak it in fascism and racism to scare them away like with pepe
that's not the third reich n roll
Isn't that what pic related is all about?
I'm on that simpsonwave now
Fuck mainstream vapebruhwave
eat logs, leaf
>if the majority of something is shit, it isn't trash
how do you live life?
thats what their whole career was about really
try this, maybe the whole genre has gone in the wrong direction. This is a bit slower, but you might still like it.
youtube.com
Vaporwave started as a tiny movement/joke/forced meme but then fuckboys picked it up as a serious thing. I'm pretty sure the creators tried to destroy it and hate it now.
>watching JAV on mute while listening to a vaporwave playlist
youtube.com
If my stash of JAV was in VHS quality, it'd be perfect.
It's a great music genre that was overtaken by fedora tipping liberals for a hot minute. What's funny is that the alt-right has since taken over it, improved significantly upon it, and now it's extremely pro-capitalist.
It all sounds late 90s daft punk and french house only cheaper and more monotonous.
You got a problem with leafs, little boy?
>alt-right
>pro-capitalist
I want reddit to leave
forced maymay
You realize that the alt-right is an extremely large umbrella that includes libertarians and anarcho-capitalists, correct? It isn't all natsoc sperg lords like you.

I remember visiting my dad when I was a kid, he was in the pub drinking and I ran around exploring the mall on my own, playing in the escalator and going to the toy store.
Saint Pepsi is pretty awesome. Not as slow though. The moon guy is even in a video.
>that pic
and then someone used a saint pepsi track as the backing for an actual moonman piece
It's now Skylar Spence.
Saw him live but he's alright.
I actually like Kero Kero Bonito much more.
N O N E
>for every dollar we get, we give 10 cents to third world niggers
One of the main reasons why I don't shop at such establishments. Call me cold hearted but I believe that it would benefit if lesser people were left to die off instead of being supported and allowed to thrive, being a burden on the rest of us.
Remember trying out the PS2, Gamecube, and original Xbox demos in the mall Gamestop? And how everyone would try to hog it to themselves until their mom came around and took them away as she went to another store?
A part of me despises malls because of the materialistic culture and urban sprawl it symbolizes, happy that they're starting to disappear. Another part of me has the memories of the fun times at the mall, hanging out with friends, having my first date there, etc. It's bittersweet to see the mall disappearing from the American landscape.
Sounds like nails on a chalkboard.
Why would you subject yourself to listening to this?
Never thought I'd see AESTHETICS in a wiki article. The memes have become far too strong.
Check out Business Casual and the Keats Collective on Bandcamp. Lots of great albums.
This is silly, Vaporwave is Sup Forums cynicism applied to an artist aesthetics.
It's both a rebellion against a modern capitalist world where everything is mass-produced, made by committy, over hyped, under-cooked, in your face garbage and a celebration of the fact we have evolved so far as a species that we can have all that garbage while our fathers had to worry about polio.
It's Nero laughting while Rome is burning, no interesting in putting out the fire, just enjoy the warmth while it lasts.
the whole point of it was to be vague so people could come up with their batshit memey interpretations of it
just memein' it up
>spend childhood on a farm / NYC
>laugh at suburb subhumans
Feels pretty gud.
>shitty techno dance music
I believe you have Vaporwave confused with Neo 80s Retro and Synthwave.
I'd recommend 18 Carat Affair, Saint Pepsi and Infinity Frequencies. More R&B/porno groove sounding.

That's Sup Forums in general, watch the world burn.
>anti-capitalist music
No thanks, I'll stay with metal and listen to shit about being split in half and someone playing with entrails instead.
It's sort of a nostalgia for that utopia world those cheesy commercials created as well, with optimism for the future and all that. A future we were robbed off by (((them))).
>its being slowly used by the alt-right
the alt-right is a shaming term invented by leftists
vaporwave is a hipster meme from social media
I read that whole thing thinking it said "vaporwaRe" and I was like wtf Half-Life 3 got to do with punk
He never said its shitty though. Do you know how to read?
i really like the vapowave
i mostly speed it up 1,5x - 2x tho
Everyone reads into vaporwave what they want to see.
You could interpret it as anti-capitalist, or just as well you could interpret it as accelerationist, embracing 80s capitalist gloss, when everything was supposed to be shiny, comfy, designed to make you feel cultured and elite.
It's a throwback to the optimistic days before the pessimism of the millenium, with all it's race-baiting and gender-bending crap made everything ugly.
I suggest Telepath, CVLTVRE, General Translator, Vaperror and then if you consider vaporwave as overlapping with synthwave, Carpenter Brut and Perturbator
Anyway, check out some CYBERNAZI

>bunch of faggy synthesizers

its nonsense. nu-age, hipster-faggot nonsense. If i stick a dildo up my ass but claim im doing it to be anti-capitalist, does that mean i invented a new sex act?

OP's pic is gay, but I'm 10 minutes into this vid now and it's actually quite interesting and explanatory. The narrator is annoying at first but as it goes on you can tell he doesn't take his analysis that seriously. It just is what it is.
I always thought vaporwave was just 80s-90s nostalgia/Japanese anime aesthetic
>Berenstein Universe
I wonder if kek had anything to do with it
watch the vid if you can get past the first 10 minutes it actually starts to get interesting
I just watched Godzilla movies as a kid and tried to catch my sister naked.

Thanks for the unsolicited feel.
>vaporwave thread
>posts new retro synthwave
Fuck off
mah nigga
What's your favorite godzilla movie? vs. King Kong is good, but Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla is my favorite showa era movie because it has a nice 1970s spy movie trippiness and a good fight scene.
From Heisei era, Godzilla vs. Biollante is my favorite.
I'm pretty sure vaporwave just appeals to the nostalgia in young minds where during their youth they saw a much better world and reality then the one they were given and a lot of these songs are odes to that.
Consider this music relaxation of the superego.
>Vaporwave is a meme genre based on the 90's
>Retro/Synthwave is a meme genre based on the 80's
vaporwave=nostalgia+parody of materialistic culture
Nice, all I listened to was Kavinsky but this is pretty cool
The YouTube video the poster's thesis is drawn from is fucking stupid. Vaporwave is a merchandising scheme for 20-somethings without regular work - $12 tapes and $60 shirts.
It's not a response to the "false promises of capitalism." It's a way for young white guys to make money when all the jobs have been shipped off to the Land of Designated Shitting Streets.
Well, it makes sense. Despite being completely meme tier, the only thing that enabled this genre to stand is nostalgia. And if you can feel nostalgic, you are pretty close to being a nationalist, you are only a few realizations away.
Proton: Look up the definition of nostalgia if this doesn't make sense to you
Vaporwave is Art
It's as much Art as Poo Poo Pee Pee is Art
That isn't to promote or devalue either of them as Art
Art is Art, if you could pin it down to a singular definitive definition or reason it would cease to be Art
There is however some inherent irony or mischief in that Vaporwave oftentimes uses really in-genuine, non-artistic music tracks as its basis to create genuine art out of
Or
It just is funny and occasionally sounds or looks good
Take your pick
It's not New Retro Synthwave
It's Hitlerwave
Nostalgia Goggles: The Music Genre
Biollante was great. My favorite is probably Godzilla vs. Hedorah. My grandad would buy all the VHSs for me and my bro when we were kids.
