In reality, the fight of the early "moderate" FSA doesnt exist anymore. All opposition advances and defenses are led by extremists like al-Nusra, Ahrar al-Sham, in Ghouta Jaish al-Islam and in Latakia even Turkestan Islamic Party
These are all extremist Salafists with a large amount of foreign fighters (with exception of Jaish al-Islam who are probably majority Syrians)
Any moderate factions of the FSA were never strong enough to win this, their revolution simply wasnt popular enough. The salafist uprising however was plenty popular, attracting many fighters from the whole region and even Europe and China.
The Western media has 2 problems: 1. Its implied as if the current FSA factions are still some sort of noble freedom fighters, even though theyre allied to fucking al-Qaeda and 2. The western press pretends its still 2011. In the meantime most Syrians that protested for democracy, now support Assad in the face of an extremist insurgency.
