Okay that makes sense. But it's not like Christensen and Vestergaard are complete noobs when it comes to build up play. And looking at the squad, a back three would make sense, so you could field most of your top class CBs without pushing them out wide (Christensen).

Christensen is very good at build-up play and in a back-three he’s a guaranteed starter.
Vestergaard’s problem is mainly that there are three guys who are better than him and a few who are more or less equal (Zanka and Sörensen) and also that he is super slow which is also the case with Kjær, so the coach wants someone who has a bit more speed next to him.
