I've lived in Georgia and I agree. I was born in East Texas which pretty much is Louisiana and Mississippi.
This is my mental image of the South....
- Bama and Georgia as the upper class, deep south
-The Carolinas as the 'business' south.
- Virginia, the old cultural south.
- Tennessee, West Virginia and Kentucky are the banjer pickin' moonshiners
- Arkansas is little Texas
- Florida is the beach with redneck Hawaiians and damnyankees.
.....and finally Texas
- West of DFW begins the southwest, cowboy and indian country. Anything east of College Station is the South.

i dunno man even the Texas Hill Country and such is still full of sweet tea, southern dialect, and southern identity. Most of Texas is still Southern until you get to the true fringes like El Paso.
