This movie wasn't overbearingly Christian. I felt it was more of a movie about humanitarian and personal struggle.
They could've replaced Christianity with any other religion and Japan with any other country and most of the script would've still worked.

There are a million variables that go into a reason why that isn't evidence to support GOP economic policy but suffice it to say that the "Golden Age" also had a significantly larger amount of redistributive policies to offset the government spending.
The problem is ever believing an economic theory can be blindly translated to economic policy. The second you start believing that you start running your economy into the shitter. It should always be adapted on a case by case basis with empirical data.
