Did anyone find his 136 page manifesto incredibly entertaining? And I'm being serious about this. I love rockstar books, biographies, just "people" stories in general, and his work was so unique. One of my favorite books of 2014. His descent into madness is described in such crisp detail, you are laughing AT him, yet you fully understand him. He is a man with crippling flaws, but watching all of the little pieces come together is satisfying.
The characters in his book, they're so well-rounded. The stepmom trying to whip him into shape. The rich dad who simply throws money at the problem. The few friends who do their best to remain by his side despite obviously noticing his mental deficiencies. The way he describes his classmates; he is clearly king beta, yet his hate for his classmates is so tangible.
I spent two days going through it and I don't regret it.

It's a great book. The writing style itself, pretentious and over-written, is a perfect representation of Elliott's character. If someone who was trying to create a character like Elliott tried writing in first person they would not achieve what he did. It works because he is entirely unself-aware. He is, as Sup Forums often says, a parody of himself. The orange juice squirting, the seamless inclusion of facebook and brands, the fact he assumes his friend is also so turned on by some random girl in a fast food place that the reason he is going to the toilet is to masturbate. It's superb. It's hilarious and sad, it's unforced and totally without artifice. Few books achieve that degree of honesty and dedication to a theme.
