Well, what does it mean to be British? Or French? Or Serbian? Inherently nothing, but as a people they forged a culture which gave them meaning, they worked hard and many of them died so that modern Brits, Serbs and Frenchies could walk with their heads up high. As one ancient philosopher stated "societies thrive when fathers plant the seeds of fruit which they may not see".
