Does Xi enshrining "socialist policies with Chinese characteristics for the new era", which essentially is "capitalism", in China's constitution mean that communism has now been finally resigned to the trash heap of history?

Changing your iconic name after decades of doing business in a specific market is only going to damage your brand recognition. It's all the fuss on Chinese social media. Although T-B-H I kind of like the name 金拱门, it’s kind of 萌. Too bad it ain’t gonna work out.

Its been dead since Deng. He brushed aside the acamedic problem of why communism was being dismantled by saying China doesn't have the necessary industry and production as it never reached the capitalist stage, and subsequently it was estimated it would be ready for socialism centuries for now.
Ethan Carter
>money exists >goods and services are exchanged for money It’s only when communism is realized does currency becomes obsolete. Obviously China, nor any country on the world, has not realized communism yet. Socialism is only the first step. >large portions of the economy are still SOE or publicly owned >welfare state >significant parts of the economy are privately owned, but the economy is broadly guided by five year plans coming from the central government >not socialist If Sweden or Norway can be considered socialist, then China definitely counts.
Angel Murphy
>If Sweden or Norway can be considered socialist,
Top meme, Sweden and Norway are not socialist countries, they're capitalist countries with socialist characteristics.
America has a welfare state too. A bigger and better one than China. Is America a Socialist country?
The government controlling parts of the economy doesn't imply communism or socialism, it implies state capitalism.

this is a bad thing. companies are moving to Vietnam and India because wages in China is growing too fast
Owen Bennett
All thanks to the wonders of capitalism.
Ian Adams
>Implying it's not mostly the extreme rich pulling it up If you have 100 people, 99 of which earn a dollar a day, and 1 earns 9901 dollars a day, then the average income is still 100 dollars a day. But hey, just keep using statistics without context

So in your opinion, any sort of market economy = capitalism? Does that mean Cuba is capitalist too? >America has a better welfare state than China Wow, what a surprise that a country that was fully industrialized all the way back in the 1880’s, hasn’t had major war or invasion on their own soil, and has been on top of the world since the 1940’s is better off than China, which was invaded by (mainly British) imperialists, Japanese, and only began to industrialize in the 1950’s and develop a market economy in the 1980’s.
Blake Price
Its pretty reasonable to assume an even bell distribution. In reality it's slightly right skewdd.
Jose Perez
>wages growing too fast ... a bad thing. Only what a white boy living in a high income country would say.
>companies are moving to Vietnam and India Maybe in 50 years when their infrastructure is better but not today. SEA or South Asia's have zero infrastructure which makes any manufacturing for anything other than clothes cost-prohibitive. If it gets too expensive in China, if anything these companies would move back to the West.
Asher White
>any sort of market economy = capitalism
Yes, money doesn't exist in communist societies. Every communist country has failed and had to enact capitalist reforms to survive. The only time China pretends to be Communist is when they hang up the hammer and sickle for party conferences.
Carter Bailey
You.. You do notice that the horizontal axis is non-linear, right...
Charles Gray
Income inequality is really bad but getting better
Yes, thanks for explaining basic maths to me like I’m 6. The more pressing problem is the fact that most of the GDP and income gains are being made in the cities, but China is working on this now. Vietnam can never be the same kind of powerhouse that China is. Their population and territory is much smaller. That and their economy is not as advanced as China yet. Again, market=/= capitalism. >a country went from less han a few hundred dollars to almost 10,000, and still growing, is not a fantastic achievement
Again, I already said this, but communism has never been realized. China is a socialist country, I never said it was communist, except in the sense that it is lead by a Communist party. Socialism is only the first stage in realizing communism, which is still far away.
Adrian Lopez

20 years, trade between SK & China would have been 0. In the year 2016, 1/3rd of Korea's trade goes to China and it is growing every year. If it ever came to a head between choosing China or US, Korea would choose China.

The US should be careful now, pride comes before the fall. China’s already trying to build up a better relationship with the Philippines. If the US thinks they are an infallible giant, that will be the beginning of the end for them. They’ve already made a number of mistakes in the current century.
Gavin Turner
>China 2000 was a literal subsahara african shithole
China is actually a really interesting country to look at, as it's a country where you can actually see everything bad being caused by communism and things improving as they make more and more market reforms.
You can use the same country to talk about the benefits of capitalism and how shit communism is.
Jace Perez
Wages = productivity
Chinese are far more productive than Viets. So they get paid more. Foreign companies can fuck off if they want shitty workers who destroy their equipment and ruin the quality of the product. China doesn’t need foreigners anymore
Kevin Johnson
Why would he? His main goal was to make China strong, and it’s stronger now than since probably centuries past. He was a nationalist first, socialist second. It was after all Mao himself who approved of the opening of relations with the United States, and to a lesser extent, Japan. For the first ten years of the People’s Republic, he was very lenient towards businessmen both foreign and domestic. He’d probably be quite happy.
Asher Martin
Because capitalism really worked for those centuries where China was a shithole and couldnt defend itself from white & japanese invaders. it isnt a capitalism vs communism in China as it is both.
Carson Wilson

Yep. The rural inner provinces are catching up to the coastal ones.
Inequality in China is somewhat overstated because of housing. The high prices in coastal provinces is inflated by the houkou system. Remove that system and the reported inequality will immediately fall.

Wrong. These are facts. I’m pro-China, but I am not delusional.
South Korea is a partner of China, but it will be an ally of the USA as long as North Korea exists. Hong Kong has heightened tensions with China since about 2010 (not 2014, that’s a meme). China has been handling Hong Kong better since 2016. The new leader is smarter and more savvy than Cheung.
Jason Cruz
Mao was weird. He believed in Communism but also trusted the market system and wanted a strong China. It was like a form of contradictory autism.
Elijah Edwards
I’m an American born and raised, I’m just what might be considered a China-boo. Sometimes even my Chinese friends will call me Wu Mao to be honest in a joking way. This is true, there are a lot of Chinese overseas going back to China. They’re called 海归, meaning overseas returnees. Returnees have a somewhat privileged position back in China, as they have overseas experience that can be used for China.

You can also point to China as a country that benefited from the social changes implemented by Communism.
The traditional China that westerners love talking about (muh traditional Taiwan) was a backwards shithole full of massive abuses. Women in China are far better off with communism than if China had stayed “traditional”.
We’ve actually seen gender disparity increase in China since the 1980’s. For better and worse.

America has plus 100% ratio of debt to GDP, no one’s saying we’re going down yet. Way to diss me without actually countering my arguments. T-B-H I would be in China if I didn’t currently have obligations here. I plan to go back maybe next year. And I’m not Chinese, just a fan. You have a point. Tensions in 2014 were terrible, but there’s a big improvement since Carrie Lam took over. Mao was an interesting person. He took inspiration from multiple different sources, and had some interesting opinions on things. For example, he admired both George Washington and Karl Marx. One time he was being interviewed by Japanese journalists, who apologized for Japan’s previous aggressions. He replied no, actually thanking the invasion from Japan to allow the Chinese to unite as one nation in resistance. Without that, the Party may not have won the Civil War.
Leo Cook
Why is it always "pro china" or "anti china". Why not just be "pro reality".
