The truth is that there is no God. Religion is an illusion that promises supposed spiritual benefits in return for unending allegiance to an imaginary entity. It's all about mass control under the guise of believing in a lighthearted savior being sent from above to Earth to save us from eternal damnation. What the Bible fails to explain about Jesus is how his father in Heaven sent him down here to spread the "good word", but somehow Jesus is also God? Then the Bible goes even deeper with its own horseshit and says that Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit are part of a Holy Trinity? LMAO what is that shit? It's like a really-life metaphor for when you're young and your parents tell you some nonsensical bullshit you know isn't true and punctuate it with "because I said so."

Most prominent religions that are still practiced have comparable main god figures or godlike concepts, except for maybe shit like shinto. You shouldn't. But you SHOULD believe that if you behave improperly, your life will tend towards hardship. Because it will. If you don't make the appropriate sacrifices, if you don't conceptualize the world as a place that can be great if you treat yourself a certain way, and try to share that with other people in the hope that, even though the present moment is filled with tragedy and suffering and death, maybe the future can be BETTER, then the tragedy and suffering will be inescapable.
Don't think of God as a malevolent father figure in the sky that watches you and judges you for being a failing, weak, cowardly, snivelly, ungrateful, backbiting, resentful, vengeful, incompetent, ignorant human. If there is a God, he's a parent. Parent's don't watch their children every moment of every day. They don't spitefully punish them for things that are beyond their control. They guide, and do what they can so that the child has what they need and knows the things they need to know so that they can become independent. Sometimes that means punishment, or not getting that thing they wanted, but it's hard to conceptualize what human suffering is in the context of a fledgling God.
Do you remember getting grounded as a kid? It was the worst. It made me ferociously angry. It felt unjust, even while I could not argue that I did the thing that I was being punished for. It felt tyrannical, even though I was in the wrong. Going a week without TV or games or friends was the worst thing I could imagine. As an adult, I think that's fucking adorable. If God's the adult, and we're children, and sickness and tragedy and suffering and death are our lessons, then what are those things to a God? Will we, as grown up Gods ourselves, look back on our human foibles and pains with a kind of nostalgic self deprecation? "Yeah, I was really dumb as a kid. My dad gave me cancer and I thought it was just the worst thing that could possibly happen."
