You're doing it wrong. If the codecs are compatible with mp4, you can remux it in seconds instead of encoding it.

You can remux mkv into mp4 in literally seconds, even if it's necessary to convert audio in the process. Use XMedia Recode if you need a pleb-friendly GUI.

Actually it's not the best. MXF is end format of all things. The mainstream plebs haven't caught on though and many features aren't utilized not to mention the standard can be extended to accommodate anything.

You can stream from any container format if media streams themselves can be decoded on player end, as they are most commonly repacked into MPEG2 transport stream anyway.
