Why aren't you taking advantage of the opportunity that you have? You have an opportunity right now that you will probably never have again. A lot of NEETs are acting like they're going to be NEETs for the rest of their life and they're studying Japanese at a leisurely pace, but you probably won't be a NEET in a few years from now.

You have to grind hard now and get everything you can get out of these years of having no responsibilities or obligations to take up your study time. What's worse than not learning Japanese is having this opportunity of a lifetime of being a NEET and then still not learning Japanese because you wasted your NEET years by taking it easy. That's far worse. At least normal people can say that their work hours took away their study time and that's why they never learned Japanese. NEETs can't say that, you have all of the time in the world right now.

You should be studying at least three times as long as the average normal and employed person. There's no excuse for anything less and if you do less than that then you're going to hate yourself when this opportunity is no longer here.

Why do you assume that every poster here is a NEET?

yea haha, what a ridiculous assumption

I presumed that in this thread only one Canada poster reside who are ruthlessly lashing other anons with long comment.
In other word, I've thought you two were one person.

I'm pretty sure there are at least 3 regular Canadian posters here.

hm, can you phrase it like that?

I'm at work ten hours a day, go to the gym and run a household, and I still find about two hours in a day to study Japanese. When you only sleep six hours and get up at 4am, you find you have a lot of time on your hands to get stuff done.

Anyone?

Do Michel Thomas Japanese. It should take you two weeks to do the Foundation and Advanced courses. Don't fool yourself into thinking this will teach you Japanese. It'll give you an usable enough grasp on the language for a tourist trip, though.

You may want to ask the other Japanese thread here or the travel board for the latter half of your question.

I feel like this will become a great greentext story like the one with some guy silently chewing potato chips on the shitter

"Increase exhaustion valve". I don't know what that would involve. Maybe it was modeled by non-Japanese trying to write

Why would anybody do this to themselves?

What if someone needs 9-11 hours of sleep and cannot concentrate well enough if he has slept too little?

is that hammerfall reference?

clean up your diet
try intermittent fasting
avoid blue light before bed
avoid food 2 hours before bed
seriously, no human needs that much sleep
if you add the hours up you're wasting years of your life
unless you're spending them having lucid dreams or some shit

>What if someone needs 9-11 hours of sleep
What if pigs had wings

What a beautiful poem you've written!

I sleep at least 9 hours a day and fasting gives me gastrointestinal ulcers, so I feel that user.

Assess your priorities, try to find the bare minimum of daily study you can do and stick to doing it. Assiduity > Quantity.

most people probably sleep 7-8 hours, 9-11 hours sounds like some condition

Drink a shitload of water before you go to bed.

You're probably going to sleep before you're tired. You should be able to fall asleep within a few minutes of laying down. If you can't, you're not ready to sleep and you'll fuck up your rhythm by trying to do so.

supermemo.com/en/articles/sleep

>You should be able to fall asleep within a few minutes of laying down.
I can stay up for in excess of 24 hours and it will still take me a minimum of 1 hour to fall asleep.

you'd better be careful or you'll end up like these guys

How many Kanjis did you practice a day to be able to write enough for that?

Dude hasn't the time to do a few Anki reps, do you thing he'll have time to read The Lord of the Pillows saga?

You're awesome, user, but your handwriting really sets off my autism.

I can't understand what she's trying to say here. Something like, "It's not preferable for me to just be alive". "That was the unchanging morning." And then what is カイル?

>your handwriting really sets off my autism.
yea it usually triggers people

I'm not sure what you mean 2bh
those are just new words I came across today

>those are just new words I came across today
So do you just learn how to write new kanji as you learn new words then?

I did RTK, but I've developed the habit of always writing down words I don't know even when I've probably written them down before
but I don't review them often enough, so I started making an Anki deck from my vocab books, but it takes forever

According to a web dictionary,

To deal in (politics); to devote oneself to (something); to make it one's business (to do something)

for example

A teacher should not "deal in" humour alone.

it would be aimed for temporary destruction
if it is not for the purpose of temporary destruction

user I had that exact condition for the longest time. Then I got some meds that raised my blood pressure to normal levels. Now I have a regular sleep cycle.

This interests me... please, go into detail.

When you do not sleep at night, you should take a nap during class.
Particularly in Japanese class, you can do well.

Am I doing this right?

Nope

>自分の性行為の腕が悪いと落ちこんだものだが――いや、事実として上手くなかったのだろう。
What does 腕が悪いと落ちこんだ mean here? I get what 腕が悪い means here but I don't know what と落ちこんだ is doing after.

Looks like 落ち込む to me.

Any elaboration would help. I have read the maggie sensei blog post on it and I need clarification.

They are both about filling a bucket with water, not getting water from a bucket

Ah I get it. Your interpretation was actually what I thought about first but I was excepting a de instead of a ni. But I can see now why ni makes sense here. Anyway my question is actually about the tekuru form.

I think と落ちこんだ(と+落ちこむ) is "to get bummed out" [over the fact that 自分の性行為の腕が悪い]

I initially thought that too, but the conjunction いや、事実として seems weird in this case "~but in truth, I probably was just clumsy."

>greek for 掃海艇 would be «ναρkαλιευτιkό (πλοίο)» I guess...
>what's english for ναρkαλιευτής then?
>miner? "sapper"? what
>and jp for that is...
>okay, i was hoping there'd be a 2-kanji word analogous to 掃海 for land mines but i'll take 地雷処理
>wait, what's a 機雷掃討艇 and how does it differ from a 掃海艇???
>wait, minesweeping is just detecting mines, 掃海 is actually detecting AND "demining"?
>what was greek for 機雷 anyway?
>«νάρkη θαλάσσης» or «θαλάσσια νάρkη» or «ναυτιkή νάρkη»... not sure I ever heard that last one before
>wait, what's greek for 機雷原 then?
>«θαλάσσιο ναρkοπέδιο» or «ναρkοβριθής θάλασσα» (who the fuck even says ναρkοβριθής) or «θάλασσα ναρkών» or «θαλάσσιο πεδίο ναρkών»
>«θαλάσσιο πεδίο ναρkών» is apparently the grammatically acceptable way to say 機雷原 but the article making that claim is titled «θαλάσσιο ναρkοπέδιο»??? why???

you see?
I was discouraged because I had poor technique of the sexual intercourse
in this case, 腕 means technique
ex

If you want to learn Japanese more, come to JT

>いや、事実として上手くなかったのだろう。
I think this might mean "actually, it was probably _awful_", with 事実として being something like "speaking faithfully". It seems to me like the speaker is reassessing the initial statement.

your words reached my soul leaf, i shall do so.

So 上手くなかった is just a stronger statement, if anything? They seem similiar otherwise, but it makes sense if we're interpreting 事実として as that.

>自分の性行為の腕が悪いと落ちこんだものだが――いや、事実として上手くなかったのだろう。
I was often discouraged because I had poor technique of the sexual intercourse ―― actually, my technique was poor as a fact.

I was discouraged
事実として:as a fact.

Thank you. That is a lot more clear now.

So I don't plan on writing anything until I'm somewhat proficient in speaking and reading, but is stroke order really that important for me? I'm kind of impatient right now and just want to be an ankidrone already and start grinding away on tae kim grammar/reading/core 2k.
Also is yotsuba good to start out with or should I opt for a visual novel instead as my first ever reading exercise? Are doujins good for this as well?
