A pity so many people think that movie is realistic.
...
irrelevant
Thanks Bill Nye
you mean realistic like garbage movies like gravity and interstellar? Scifi is not about realism. Go back to watching shitty cgi dramas you tasteless millennial.
Stories are about conveying ideas and concepts.
Should we tell children stories about other children finding success at jumping out of windows with just umbrellas to arrest their descent?
No?
Then why should we tell dangerous falsehoods to adults?

Hello post-modernists.
Hiding from value doesn't make it go away.

Agreed. He's great in Alpha Dogs.

>doesn't understand what it means
You do realize that there are different genres of Science Fiction? Films like Moon, Interstellar, and The Martian fall under the "Hard Science Fiction" category its not meant to be viewed or perceived as "Fantasy" or "Science Fantasy" .
...
Lol, you're retarded
>muh sub-sub-genres
what?
Marooned.
Go ahead and watch it. You won't.
It's someone who rejects value systems.
>Hard Science Fiction" category
In PR, yes. In reality, they're still space opera.
Moon is bullshit because lunar he3 deposits are at concentrations of 50 parts per billion and you'd need 150 million tons of rock to get 1 ton of helium 3 and that is not a net energy gain.
Interstellar deliberately discarded the realistic black hole kip thorne made and the plot hinges on an impossible solar system where impossible quantum love nonsense saves the day.
The martian's entire plot hinges on a wind storm that is physically impossible in the extremely sparse atmosphere of mars. Yes, the wind does get up to mach speeds, but its so thin it can't move shit.
They're all speculative fiction. Calling it "Science Fiction" or saying it's "more realistic" is just fooling the layman into thinking this shit is real, for no other gain than a temporary financial one.
Look up how many people die in car fires because people have watched so many movies where cars always explode and nobody tries to help them, and then tell me stories don't have an effect on the world.

have seen. i don't even know if you could call it science fiction. more like contemporary fiction set in space. didn't the apollo 13 fuck up happen like a year after release?
>Andy Serkis
i like you, user
Pretty sure Hollywood is racist & I'm pretty sure John Geguizamo is an acting God.
Andy Serkis in the film about Ian Dury... Jesus Christ! I started to believe Serkis was actually Dury!
Serkis is an amazing actor - beyond all the green-screen shit.
>more like contemporary fiction set in space
That is my definition of hard science fiction. Reality - pure and simple, with no nonsensical plot contrivances.
It's exceedingly rare because people don't like stories about space, they like stories about oceans.
>didn't the apollo 13 fuck up happen like a year after release?
It was the following April, but people were tougher back then and didn't get triggered by the possibility of bad things happening.
>Reality - pure and simple, with no nonsensical plot contrivances.
do you consider The Right Stuff science fiction too?
No, i'd consider that either Military Fiction or Historical fiction. An original story is needed, i think. What happened in Marooned and what happened to Apollo 13 are extremely different.
It is an extremely good movie though.
