Skyline was awful
I thought doctor strange was pretty good compared to the other capeshit.
Nolan had never made a bad movie until this
a significant portion of the audience flat out didn't get it but were scared to admit it so they sung its praises instead
it was deep
lmao remember when JGL was a thing?
It made people feel smart rather than requiring them to be smart.
I liked the love story. Probably one of my favourites in film tbqh.
>a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream
the best movie version of platos cave with a grand score/cool cast+dark knight hype
>good soundtrack
>okay visuals
>babby's first open ending
>babby's first slightly non-linear story-telling
I think it gets too much flak from us contrarians though, it has some great scenes.
It had a bunch of male actors that women go gaga over.
Christopher Nolan became a common normie household word.
Impactful soundtrack by Zimmer which affected a whole decade of soundtracks/trailers.
Leonardo DiCaprio and a whole cast of famous pretty actors.
"We need to go le deeper" facebook memes.
Interesting visuals and set pieces.
Normie's first open ended ending.
It's basically this generations Pulp Fiction/Fight Club (though it's worse than both of those films), a decent film with some clever scenes, but normies started overpraising it like it's the meaning of life itself.
because just all other Nolan movies it made them feel smart.
god I hate JGL
why is he always smiling?
I went tangerines for it.
DUDE 8 LAYERS OF DREAMS LMAO
S U C C
At least the practical effects were good. Throw in pop psych bullshit and attractive people and you've got a winner.
Electrical engineering + Neurosurgery = Artificial dreaming

Because it is a really fun movie. Sure it has tons of plot holes, like literally a ton of them, like chris nolan should be ashamed of himself for writing so sloppy, but it's fucking fun as hell.
>What's the next step of our masterplan?
>To go deeper.
>But this is already deepest plan!
>The other one, the deepest.
It was a semi-original idea in a sea of reboots. Still is, actually.
And yea I know, Paprika. No one but you and I and a few other weebs have seen that movie.
*Fog horn*
>Sure it has tons of plot holes, like literally a ton of them
name ONE(1)
Because it's a great action movie with an entertaining concept. If you didn't enjoy the sinking van sequence then I guess you're just dead inside.
>The tallest guy in that pic is the Asian
Really makes you ponder
Cobb was going to use explosives to kick himself out of the 3rd dream level.
My biggest problem with the movie are the wasted opportunities. Its a movie about beeing inside a dream, with some not to subtle nods to Paprika by Kon, but they manage to do almost nothing interesting with that outside of the shots made for the trailer.
Its a dream, you can do anything, so lets do some sub par scenes that we lifted off a james bond movie.
It's not the worst thing in the world, just terribly underwhelming.
>it's a dream where you're specifically trying to make it look like it's not a dream
>better do some crazy shit that's not possible in reality just so that the movie looks cool
Get out, retard.
you ever heard about overdoing it? Doing anything is just what would make it unineresting. Having dragons and weird shit appear everywhere wouldn't make the movie better. That's why every setpiece in Paprika is forgettable but the gravity and rain affecting the other dreams in Inception IS memorable precisely because they limited themselves and set up certain rules that they then play with. It also adheres to this slick Heist-aesthetic because it's part heist movie, in addition to like this poster said:making the movie more in line with the overarching idea/theme of not knowing whether things are real or not.
FUCK THIS MOVIE
DURR BEST FILM OF THE YEAR!! FUCKING MARK KERMODE, IDIOT
HOLY SHIT cillian murphy is so tiny
>in my shitty opinion
Praised by both critics and audiences
It was okay, the whole wife thing was annoying and the climax of the film doesn't work.
The ending shot is great, it's just that dumb normies think it's about IS IT LE DREAM OR LE REAL WOW which ultimately doesn't matter at all, what matters for Cobb is that he is finally with his kids no matter is it fake or not.
That's why he doesn't even look back at the totem, he just goes straight to his kids.
That's great and all and I remember everyone arguing whether or not it was a dream and them thinking that's what made the movie so deep but in reality why should anyone care if he gets to see his kids? You never even see them in the entire movie, they are just weak plot devices to give the main character a goal and the movie spends all its time building an interesting world but no time giving us a reason to want him back to see his kids
Normies eat up films they pretend to understand, for some reason it makes them feel smarter.
to me, like with most heist movies I don't really care about the reasons the conmen are doing the hit, the excitement lies in whether or not they'll pull it off and how it will play out. Could you argue "Well why even put it in there in the first place then"? I guess, but I think the kids also serve the broader theme of the film of whether it matters if it's a dream nor not and that all comes across despite me not caring about Cobb's connection with his kids.
"I didn't care for the character's motivation" is a usual complaint these days but I don't think it's always warranted. Like in this case.
so?
It's more a matter of how he wants to see his children so bad but the kids themselves don't really effect the plot in any meaningful way. The whole movie is an interesting plot inside a bigger plot that no one cared about.
Take a movie like jurrasic park for example, all the characters are just trying to survive and get off that island, there for the whole movie is about them being in danger and trying to survive. In inception the main character wants to see his kids, there for the whole movie is about him and his team trying to incept a thought into that ceo guy, see the disconnect?
>the whole movie is about him and his team trying to incept a thought into that ceo guy
That's not how I saw it. The rest of the people have different motivations and I think the heist itself quickly takes over when things start going sideways. At that point it's the same as jurassic park, just people trying to save the heist and not get stuck in limbo. Leonardo kind of flows into the background when I watch the movie as well since everyone in the team are so vital to the heist.
Holy shit if Tom Hardy is that tall compared to the rest of them, is Ellen Page like 3 feet tall?
Its one of those pseudo deep movies normies can claim to like to appear intelligent without coming as pretentious. Its a proto Arrival
Because it was an enjoyable summer blockbuster that wasn't just a cgi shitfest
is max wearing RDJ shoes?
Good film, good cast, good concept.
Introduced a lot of new ideas to people, which spurs discussion, which spurs buzz and yada yada.
Historically it doesn't really mean anything aside from box office records. It was just "the thing" of the time, like so many other things that pass.
Right I guess I worded it wrong, but yea the story becomes completely about them trying to get out of the dream world, not mess up and get stuck in limbo and still try to incept that thought into the crowd guy. Which is all interesting and like you said the main charcater and his problem flows into the background like you said, but then all of a sudden at the end it flips back to the main character and now you are just supposed to care.
Imagine if in jurrasic park the main character at the beginning didn't want to be late for his friends wedding, then the jurrasic park movie happens and after the end where they are safe in the helicopter it cuts to a shot where he makes it in on time for his friends, like no one really cared about the wedding, we cared about the dinosaurs and them trying to survive them.
I know a lot of other movies do things like this and get away with it, but in inception so case that scene is supposed to be the climax of the film, the part you are supposed to care about the most.
Well I can see how you would see it that way, but for me it was just a character motivation being fulfilled at the end to put a ribbon on the whole thing. The main point of LOTR is to unite the people's of middle earth and destroy the ring. That's the main goal. That doesn't make Sam's little wedding at the end feel out of place, it's just a small piece of character motivation getting its due at the end.
But in lotr case we see the women he marries at the beginning and is heavily tied into his arc of finding courage.
But also, again, I'll point out that in lotr him marrying the woman isn't the climax of the story, in inception him coming home is, I just feel that the two worlds should have done a little better to justify each other.
Why does Sup Forums pretend to hate Nolan?
Sure, his flicks don't always hold up 100% under intense scrutiny. But they're original and entertaining, which is more than what can be said about 95% of the industry today.
Because it was atheist propaganda.
Go ahead, watch it again.
Exactly. It's a film about loss and overcoming that loss, like most Nolan films are.
