I talked to some rural Pennsylvanians. These folks were not 'Pennsyltucky' but typical family farm owners types with some level of education (associates degree or bachelors degree at most).
The big thing that surprised me is that they did not like how Trump "made fun of that handicapped reporter, and other things"
They were definitely voting for Trump. They could barely say Hillary's name without popping a blood vessel.

If he flat out condemned the war, he would've been pandering, which isn't something this campaign is based around. Coming around to Trump's stance on issues like trade while retaining his old stances on other issues such as the war is a more mature and though out approach. He can't be against everything Trump is for, but copy-pasting Trump's stances over his own would be fucking shallow. This is why Canadians have their reputation.
