What do you see when you close your eyes?

What do you see when you close your eyes?

I don't see anything, it's just black and whatever light happens to bleed through my eyelids. But I heard that other people can visualize things.

yeah I see colors and shapes that morph and float around. the cool thing is they flash and change shape faster when there are sounds present as well. i assume it's some synaptic crosstalk going on in my brain.

that's pretty neat.

sometimes after I've been reading for a while, I see vague patterns of text. I can't make out any words usually, but it's like an afterimage of text. And one time when I did weed I could see vague geometric/triangular patterns. But nothing super visible.

the sound thing is particularly strong for me. if I have my eyes shut and sort of relaxed, if there is a loud sudden bang like a door slamming shut I will "see" a bright white flash. that happens pretty often as I am falling asleep. I assumed many people see the same.

I've never seen visuals in response to sounds. That sounds like synesthesia

I just looked it up. I also used to strongly associate some numbers with colors when I was a kid. I don't really do that anymore though. 5 and 6 were always visualized as red and blue to me and vice versa.

Black and white shifting and distorting checkerboard patterns, with a ballooning effect. Sometimes with small bursts of colors.

I always thought this was normal shit. I bet even op can see shapes and colors in response to sounds if he just keeps his eyes shut and relaxes long enough.

I can't visualise any patterns or pictures unless i'm literally dreaming.

But I can do it with sounds and hear exact songs in my head and such.

Not at all? I can visualize things, kind of, but it's not like I see a picture of it in my mind's eye. Like if I think of someone I know, I get the feeling of seeing them even though I don't really see them.

I can definitely conjure up music and sounds in my "mind's ear" with great detail.

Yep literally nothing. Google tells me it's called aphantasia. You're meant to be able to improve it with something called Image Streaming where you talk out loud to a voice recorder describing what you see in detail, which makes it morph and change, then you describe that. It's something to do with chaging brain associations

But I don't see anything so there's nothing to describe. Just the back of my eyelids.

image streaming might work those on extreme low end of visualization ability, but I doubt it would work for actual aphantasiacs

I see an ever expanding patern that contains an infinite number of paterns as far as i can tell

I've seen something like that when I was high on nitrous. But normally it's just dark and some slight "static" like a really dark old TV

well yeah that's my experience, but admittedly I haven't sunk a lot of time into it, because I kept getting frustrated after a few minutes. The website of its inventor suggests rubbing on your eyes, or staring at a bright light to get an afterimage. Just so there's something there to describe at the start, and then it "should" start working eventually if you keep at it.
One day when I'm feeling very calm I'll give it like 30 minutes, maybe for a few days in a row, to see if I can get anything.

I see visual snow. basically like looking at a tv screen with bad reception.

30 minutes? that's too long. i think you are overthinking it.

well i only done like 2 minutes before I start raging and hitting myself before, so I need to convince myself I'm in it for the long haul and get myself to relax a bit, is my logic.

Same, kinda. I used to image street names with otherworldly images. I don’t do it anymore, but I still remember the images I associated with my friends and my streets.

Like this? This is pretty close to what I'd say I see.

Depends on different things.
Sometimes I'll see kaleidoscope like shit.
Sometimes I'll see black nothingness, but not for long.
Sometimes I'll see space and stars if I push on my eyes or smash my face into a pillow.
If drugs are involved, such as hallucinogens, I can see how I think my mind works in terms of storage or processing. That shit is brutal to comprehend though. The mind is endless abd to "see" that is straight up crazy, infinite mirror status.

Yeah, like that

If you’re ever bored, try tightly shutting your eyes and lightly pressing on them with two fingers per eye. After 5-10 seconds you’ll start to hallucinate.
It’s pretty cool, but don’t do it too much or your eyes will start to hurt.

lol if I hit myself I would see the flashes and shit. I think it should be easy to see these things. I took lsd a long time ago. maybe it is related to that. it kind of feels like the weird stuff I saw when taking lsd. anyway if you want to experience what this synethsisa is like take some lsd. they are similar at least in my experience. I remember first time I took it I walked into a room where a stereo was just powered on but playing nothing and I was asking people what the fuck noise was so loud. they realized it was the stereo just being on but my mind was focused on that hissing that no one else could hear. also I saw some amazing shit when I was tripping. it's similar to the sort of stuff I see when I close my eyes.

Generally see like white circles, or little white dots flashing around. If I’ve been taking any kind of hallucinogen I see random scenes playing out like a movie.

that sounds cool. does it happen with weed or do you need something that's more of a psychedelic like LSD?

It honesty doesn’t have to be very hallucinogenic at all. Like i can be taking DXM or even just like, a decent painkiller dose and still get the same effects. It’s not super cohesive although over time I have been able to kinda generally shape what I will see. Especially with DXM, I can be like “man dinosaurs are cool” and it’ll be like watching animated dinosaurs doing crazy stuff, like following pterodactyl around as it flies under and around other dinosaurs and shit. Or like one time I saw like a movie version of Payday which was pretty cool. I get it occasionally when I’m sober but usually only if I’ve been awake way too long or something.

That's cool I have the same thing with the loud noises and then like a white flash and i feel a slight static in my body lol when i close my eyes i see slight shapes and colors. Never had any of that before I did psychadelics many times.

I don't recall if the shapes and colors and noises started after I tried lsd. but I did have the number color stuff going on as a kid well before 8 tried lsd. I should drop acid again. I really enjoyed that.
