Start with Shogun 2, everyone agrees it's the best of the modern era.

HASTATI

That's what I've heard, but not gonna lie I have no desire to buy shogun

really nice if you like romanz shitt tbh, played with my buddy alcoholicus and we made a bunch of funny memes. solid 8/10

If this was launch I would say Rome 2 wouldn't be worth it. However at current state with its campaigns it is by far the best entry in the modern era. Shogun 2 is great as well but you won't get the modern amenities and modding is far more limited. Rome 2 has it all at this point. HIGHLY reccomend. It is far better then atilla or brittania. I would also highly reccomend the current game ROTKTW but you will CURRENTLY get more longetivity out of Rome 2 and likely for cheaper. Go for it man. If you have steam throw me a username Ill add ya. I have played since shogun 1 loyally.

Yeah it's pretty good but Shogun 2 is better. Never played Atilla but I hear it's an improvement on Rome 2.

With the Emperor Edition update a couple of years ago, it definitely got a lot better.

I say this as some anons may still be thinking about early release and the game has improved a lot since then. It's in my top 5 TW games.

Big Total War fan here, fucking loved the Rome and Medieval instalments, never could get into the Shogun ones.
Not sure why, I just had trouble caring about any of it.
Rome II was awesome, definitely would recommend, especially since its probably dirt cheap now too.

I would disagree that Atilla is better having played both for a long time. It may have been a better launch but the support was a lot more limited and the campaign mechanics really aren't as enjoyable. They implemented most of the family mechanics from atilla into rome as well which pretty much destroys Atilla.

medieval 2 is good, also warhammer.

rome 2 is shit. if you dont want to get shogun go with medieval

Rome 2 was shit. Now its very good. Also there is a smaller contingent of fans that stick very stubbornly to medieval 2. There are a lot of good mods for it but it is also very outdated at this point. Graphically and mechanically. Still a solid fun option especially for mod campaigns.

Also, none come close to comparing the mods on Medieval II. They have totally remade and reskinned versions of the game, the LOTR one being fucking epic.

Am I going to have to buy all the dlc too or is the base game fine?

You are gonna want at least the Emperors Edition, I am not sure if that comes with the base game now

>worth a buy
just pirate it you faggot and test it out for yourself

Base game is fine

yeah, that's just a big update rather than a thing you paid for

>yeah, that's just a big update rather than a thing you paid for
I haven't played in forever, couldn't remember if this was the case.

Yes, but its hard to learn it. still a lot of fun. Dont buy Shogun, its for hentai lovers only.

Some of the more fun factions where you truly can make some memetic cheese are in the dlc's

I'm looking at you Galatians.....

>everyone agrees
i don't, get warhammer 2 instead

>I'm not a fucking barbarian
>about to buy Rome II

the original meadevil total war was pretty cool, i almost want to say shogun 1 is fake as fuuuck, but shogun 2 was legit i bought every expansion pack for it.

I never really got into Warhammer.
Idk, something about all the weird creatures and shit, felt like Narnia.
I just want medieval warfare.

Go straight to Medieval Total War 2. Best Total War game behind the Warhammer versions. I’ve got more than 600 hours on that bad boy.

Have something like 300 hours on time 2. Go to the mods market on steam and download radious mod pack. It’s fantastic
