Not really, since that would just force them to make a sequel to appease stockholders. The movie was likely very expensive like pointed out, it has to ATLEAST make production and marketing plus 25% to get a sequel, so at least it would have to make 300 million plus.
SONY is still on a downwards spiral and cant afford to lose money on shitty sequels to shitty movies. That's why they handed Spider-man back over to Marvel, that's why Fant4stic will never get a sequel.
