What went so fucking right?
Will we ever see something so epic and large scale on cinema ever again?
What went so fucking right?

These movies are so overrated, saw them in theaters and to this day don't get what the big deal is aside from production itself.
Please mail yourself to tahiti and fuck off for the rest of forever.
Fellowship> TTT> Return of the King>>>>>>>>> shit>>>>>> The Hobbit movies
Fellowship is a nigh perfect fantasy movie. It just has such wonderful atmosphere, set design and performances.
The Two Towers is better than any of the Hobbit movies, no matter how good the first hour of Unexpected Journey is
Am i a pleb for thinking that the Lord of the Ring movies are just good, but nothing special?
Yes, they have cool characters portrayed by excellent actors, like Gimli, Saruman and the Ent, but the story is kind of boring, they insist too much on uninteresting characters (like the guy from Fringe and that girl that is also a warrior, forgot her name), and the villains are not properly dealt with (Sauron is but an eye, the Orcs have no personality, Grimtongue is an henchman, and we don't get enough screentime of Saruman)
It's a once in a generation passion project that we'll probably not see the equal of for at least another 15-20 years
>I would have followed you my brother, my captain... my king
youtube.com
;_;
You're probably too young to remember how unique it was at the time it was released. After a decade + of Narnia, Eragon, The Hobbit and a million other filler-teir fantasy adaptations, ti muddies the waters.
>epic and large
This is not what makes these films special
generic action movies for 15-25 year-olds
Yeah, that may be the reason. I understand the hype, but not the universal acclamation
Chris Tolkien pls go
>Am i a pleb
Yes.
This is a very, very well written bait, close to 9 I dare to say.
Is clear only when he talks about the villains.
> the villains are not properly dealt with (Sauron is but an eye,
This was too retarded user, you blew it. Nonetheless, good job.
Good job. I am impressed. I mean look the effort put here compared to this You have a fan.
Even my dad loves this movie the man who was raised by old soviet movies
>I am a patrician of patrician tastes
Yeah okay, enjoy your "epic fantasy" movies kiddo. You have probably never even seen Sinbad or Jason+Argonauts but yeah you know shit about fuck.
God I hate this board.
your obsession with this trilogy is unhealthy at best.
I never wrote Maybe I am being too harsh on Sauron, but Saruman and the orcs could have been delt more properly.
I assure you I am not baiting
That is old stuff I used to watch with my parents. I remember I loved it in general, but once again I was raised with, say, my uncle telling me Odysseus vs Polyphemus as a fairy tale. So I loved these myths in general.
I should rewatch this stuff to see if it survives the test f time, no idea if now is shit. Is poor bait or I should look it up?
Anyhow, the movie is very successful in creating several emotional moments and immersion. Is a work of passion and only a pleb would not get it. An argument for it are, sadly, the Hobbit movies from the same director.
The orcs are underdeveloped in the original material too. Since Jackson had to CUT stuff, was not a good idea to add too much not even taken from the appendices.
You still have a great work from the actors and small moments to have an insight about them, and a lot about their culture that is shown and not told.
>I assure you I am not baiting
bruh
You hate this board? Please don't go, we all need you here my friend.
my dad hates this movie the man who was raised by old soviet movies
Also, again, we have the hobbit showing what happens when he just makes shit up.
I am truly not baiting. I like some scenes, like the ones with the ents, all of Saruman's, most of Gimli's and some good quotes. But the rest seems meh to me. I can't get involved on it like many people can
Same guy - man sometimes is just some other element. As an example, my father just loathes fantasy. He just likes Uruk-hai because of the way they fight. Only them because he is not interested in orcs or elven faggotry. When I was back home and watched it with my sister, he was drawn a bit in the movie because of the uruks but he just cannot give a shit about fantasy.
Which is weird because we share a comic book passion but he wants more grounded stuff unless is more in tune with is times. Is just tastes.
TFW I'm going to see the whole trilogy in a small theater (that shows old films) from 35mm film.
Wow good job, are you going to bring your shaved sides haircut+beard and converse+plaid with you too? Wanna be friends?
Your dad and I could become friends. We both like comic books but don't care about fantasy
He likes more stuff related to history like many older italian comics. Also, Western.
Does he like Blueberry and Lucky Luke?
Absolutely yes. He used to buy me Lucky Luke, too. Indeed, he like franco-belgian stuff, too and such stuff is the only thing we used to make read to my mother (she is a bookworm and made me discover Lotr, but no comics barring some american strip like Peanuts and B.C. when it was good).
I will love your father if he reads Corto Maltese
this is getting a little bit strange
I start to think you are literally my dad.
Yes, and I love it even more, is probably one of the most beloved media of mine.
in a cute way
*media product, I meant among comics, movies, and so on.
Those movies were only enjoyable because of Harryhausen. Otherwise they were schlock.
Unironically neck yourself, thanks.
GO READ CORTO MALTESE!
"I visited his tomb when the forest of autumn is all red and gold... and I called him.
He did not answer"
Not only you and your dad have proper taste, you are also based as hell!
hurrah Semenoff
hurrah
hurrah
i'd prefer if your dad read it to me. i would sit on his lap.
>tfw I unironically want to go, in real life, to Ungern's tomb to see if he answers
what do you think, how it ended? They say Corto disappeared during the Spanish Civil war.
But yet, I think that the end of the saga is described at the beginning of the Ballad.
Also, did you read the new one, made by the Spanish guys? I found it decent.
I haven't read it. I believe that Corto disappeared during the Civil War, because dreams of liberty and tradition, that Corto, in a way, represents, were twisted by both the fascists and communists to their advantage
The feelings. The feelings this fucking comic book conveys.
If I think about Golden Mouth, or the old Yazid in the Golden House of Samarcanda...
The Old Rasputin and the best friendship between, in /tg/ terms, a CG (Corto, maybe neutral) and a CE.
>what do these Devil worshipers intend to?
>same as everyone: be better
>anyway, they can't be worse than the others
FUCKING BASED!
Ah, I always took it literally. You are right, is probably a reference to that. Is a bit like Grand Budapest Hotel in a way. Is a world that is just gone forever.
Corto: "let me go I am British Citizen"
French Soldier: "In case, you are british SUBJECT. I am a French citizen, because France is a republic".
So, extended or theatrical cut?
Well, every time I need to pass a decade I put on the extended cuts.
>tfw we managed to turn a Lord of the Rings thread into a Corto Maltese thread
Today was a good day
One day I will kill you, Corto.
Harry potter was better.
