The script was shitty and overexplained everything, though. ScarJo wasn't much for actings, the director and script share some of the blame but she was a meh Major with the three combined.

I've been a massive GitS fan for a long time now, I've enjoyed the first 3 movies (fucking LOVED Innocence), SAC and 2nd GIG. I've seen each of those movies and episodes AT LEAST twice, each. I have the soundtrack from all of them and enjoy listening to it regularly. I thought Arise was dissapointing, but still decent cinema. Better than most other anime/cartoons/live action out there.

I want to know- what is ScarJo's prosthetic level? The Major has been a full cyborg since a very young age, with her only "natural parts" being her brain and maybe part of spinal column, and even those are modified.

The anime movie version doesn't have a lot of rain because she has flaws. She pushes away some of her humanity, questioning emotions at times as if they're just programming leftover from her previous body. A program, but not real. The Major is also a stubborn bitch who wants to do the mission solo rather than risk bringing in the team. The reason why she tries to tell Batou to stay away despite Batou saving her in the end from complete annihilation. Most of her emotion shown is stubbornness and anger in the anime film.

While I agree that most anime characters are not being drawn as white, the 1995 Ghost in the Shell film and its sequel do not have a typical anime artstyle. In those movies, which this shitty flick seems to draw most heavily from visually, you can distinguish which characters are supposed to be Asian (see Aramaki, Togusa, creepy doll things in Innocence). While Motoko's race may be more ambiguous in other adaptations and the original anime, she's very clearly white in the 1995 film.
