Why do liberals love 1984, but hate brave new world?

Why do liberals love 1984, but hate brave new world?

They do?

Yes.

Animal Farm > 1984 > Brave New World

normies hate all three because they like masturbating to idealism/communism

>when commies love the work of someone who got his soul crushed and betrayed by commies thinking his work is about communism

top kek fucking liberal retards

implying Anthem isn't best dystopian novel

animal farm is really comfy

Liberals like both. At least I do, and I've never heard any other liberals talk about Brave New World negatively.

anthem is for autistic middleschoolers that want to act deep and intellectual

so it's perfect for Sup Forums

speak english dummy

Its the opposite actually

What makes you think that? liberal love both. Or at least the ones at my uni do

Brave New World criticizes consumerism more than any of the dystopian novels. It's a lot more unsettling to the kind of people whose lives are enveloped by mass consumption. They're okay with hearing how bad Big Brother is, after all we aren't experiencing that so it's an abstract thought. But they don't want to be told that their actual obsession with oddities, celebrities, sex, and drugs is completely wrong. It's a tough pill to swallow.

>implying orwell's simplistic schizoid fears of government control/censorship compares to huxley's multi layered discussion on government control through multi-faceted conditioning and media

Consumerism is a more general human phenomenon not limited to any one political affiliation.

>schizoid
please. what he wrote of has pretty much all happened

they don't what are you on about

source: me, a liberal

...

Because brave new world is closer to the truth of our society. We're all fighting left and right wing crusades, while both sides are distracted and bedazzled by the distractions of technology, sports, and other frivolous wastes of time. They don't have to work too hard to control us, our brains are already mush

Both are equally as close tbqh.

they've never read Brave New World

No. Brave New World is the reality we live in.

1984 was Orwell trying to copy Huxley and has missed the mark.

Too many people still looking for Big Brother while the Brave New World surrounds them.

not as much as Brave new world

I mean it IS quite schizotypal, totalitarianism taken to the extreme through language and thoughts. Brave new world covers a wider range of believable ideas, but does so with considerably more nuance

There isn't some big obvious villian who exposes his plans for complete control at the end of brave new world, just a controller who sees a society rid of negative emotions to be the utopia mankind desires

there's an argument for both sides in ABNW, whereas 1984 just shoves it's message down your throat

Why do libtards insist on announcing their political views in their twitter bios?

It's like a game, the more buzzwords you fit into the character limit, the more points you get.

not to be "that guy," but doesn't this thread belong on

Nope, the internet has killed 1984 and has inched a BNW closer to our reality

With an endless over saturation of information people have become complacient

thats interesting though given that huxley wrote that one book called the doors or perception or something, where he basically advocates experirmental drug use

WE ARE LITERALLY LIVING IN 1984 TRUMP IS HITLER

Was that the one that the band "the doors" was named after?

>Socialist criticizes communism
>Liberals critcize socialism
>Conservatives who don't know the difference between the three think they're being hypocritical
Sometimes they don't evem bother learning the names themselves so they use the blanket term "leftists" so they don't have to think at all

>tfw now trump supporters hate 1984 because they used it against their God Emperor

nothing is safe from cheap hate apparently

it was. and he wrote it in the 50s. bnw was written in the 30s, so he might have changed his mind.

>Socialist criticizes communism
I'll take things that have never happened, for 100

When totalitarianism comes to America, it will be defended by meme-spewing retards like you.

True. I don't think Brave New World is especially vile to those on the left, but I do think the book can potentially criticize more people on the left than the right. A large number of people whose lives are controlled by modern consumerism live in large metropolitan areas, and these people tend to be disproportionately liberal. The majority of people whop care about tabloid news and social media are liberal. Consumable media such as music, television, news and sports are disproportionately liberal. I'm not saying that's wrong, and I know for certain that conservatives have their fair share of the pie, but that's just what I've seen.

That's 1984. Orwell himself was a socialist.

Because BNW came true and they orchestrated it

Doesn't necessarily mean that, experimental drug use is far removed from medical drug use, or drug use to suppres someone.

Well drugs aren't necessarily bad. BNW definitely doesn't advocate using a lot of unnecessary ones though. It's reasonable to assume Huxley changed his mind with the advancement of modern medicine, as recreational drug use in America, iirc, didn't really take off until the 60s. Sure opiate abuse was a problem after WWII but it wasn't near the same as current drug issues.

I recently read a couple of Orwells books about socialism and they were like 300 pages of reddit and tumblr posts

epicly upboated

Like the game conservatives play when they try to add "cuck" into someone's name?

I'm not a conservative, what are you trying to say?

They're fucking both true, I don't get why there's this big wank over which one is more representative of our contemporary Western society.

We're conditioned from birth to be hypersexual consumers, but we're also monitored relentlessly (hell browsing Sup Forums is probably enough these days to get put onto a fucking list) and fed an ever-shifting narrative about our world (those fucking Russians are at it again, Trump bad Hillary good, we'll never go to war in the Middle East again, we do have to go to Syria though fuck those guys, that's actually un-news stop looking at it here watch this instead).

Drugs are bad. Only medicine is good.

>Television and Film
Ask /lit/ not us.

You gotta think that the recreational drugs of the past were opiates, but nowadays they're stimulants.

SK
Japan
Middle East

All are authoritarian but name. People chose on how they want to be led.

No, but OP is going with a narrative that he can't hold in /lit/.

Anthem is so fucking simplistic.

>Individualism is good
>Collectivism is bad
>XD

They can spin 1984 to be about conservatives, but Brave New World is pretty explicitly a liberal world gone mad.

I read 1984 in high school and Brave New World a few years after I graduated. Both great novels but Brave New World is just straight up reality at this point.

Huxley took LSD on his death bed therefore BMW is. Better source lit major.

I want soma why can't I take a some vacation paid for by the government all I have are these shitty klonopins.

Thats a fucking great way to go.
