This. If that many US troops were attacked by an ostensibly Allied country (taking hostage is attacking), Obama would not be playing golf or trying to keep it under wraps. Its an established fact, not rumor, that Turkey has cut power to the base and is not allowing anyone to enter or leave. It's also widely reported that the base was used to support the pro-coup operations yesterday. And it's also a fact that Erdogan said if the US wants Turkey to cooperate they have to hand over Gulen, which the US does not want to do. Call the situation whatever you want, but these are the facts.
As to why you haven't been hearing much of this on the MSN networks, keep in mind that Turkey essentially controls the media right now and determines what is reported and what makes in into international news. In addition, Ancirlik airbase has been on FPCON Delta since the coup began, which is the highest level of force protection readiness in which the base prepares for an imminent attack. Under these conditions, opsec is of the highest priority and base commanders would not share details of the situation with the media.

I'm not suggesting it's under attack. That, I agree, would be impossible to hide. It may even be the case that the American servicemembers are just stuck in a shitty situation while Turkey deals with their own military members who supported the coup from the base. But the possibility for escalation is always present in situations like this. People do not always act rationally and mistakes get made.
