Long story short: plastic shouldn't be used for water.
Story: So, I started suspecting that plastic piping is shit, when polypropylene pipe ruptured under ground. Ok, I though, maybe shitty pipe, or underground is a harsh environment. So, I called a plumber and he welded new pipe on... Today my gas heater started leaking. I disassembled it, and found that water is leaking on copper gas line, making it all green and nasty. Guess what failed there? PEX pipe. Tiny 6 mm (probably) PEX pipe that connects water flow switch with venturi thing on the input. I though I'm smart and I will cut the pipe and re-terminate it. But no, shit was so brittle it felt like glass tube. So, I guess I will get a new water heater.
Copper might pin leak after 50 or so years due to acidity of water. Iron pipe might get filled with rust in 50 years. Lead will last forever, but... Fucking plastic (all of them, PVC, PP, PEX...) will become brittle as eggshell. And slightest waterhammer, no, earthquake, no, fucking fart in the bathroom will break. In fucking 10 years.
no shit now go have a fuckin beer and rant about the plastic pipes to your family until they are debating whether or not it is in their best interest to leave now before they get strangled in their sleep with flex piping like a normal man
Eli Williams
thats not funny, thats how my sister died
Jace Jackson
Family had enough. If shit breaks down, I replace everything with copper.
Logan Peterson
>care breaks down replaced with copper >child getting in trouble at school replaced with copper >wife on her period again replaced with copper all your problems can be solved with copper
Christopher Carter
>care god dammit time to replace my keyboard and fingers with copper
Unusually cerebral thread for Sup Forums. But seriously... PEX is fucking great and iron pipe is the bastard son of satan. Copper is good but sweating fittings will drive you to drink. PVC is my go-too around the house. Never had a leak in 10 years of DIY.
Jaxon Torres
copper pipes are stink. PEX and PVC are maximum. OP is of weak seed.
Easton Edwards
>bitching about plastic >brass get a load of this fucking OP. doesnt even into brass.
Dominic Hughes
Put lots of plastic water pipe in the ground. Never had any problems with pipe repairs, ever.
Jackson Baker
I'm not plumber. I just had it fucking enough. >Copper is good but sweating fittings will drive you to drink. Um... My butane torch (1,7 kW) can braze 3/8 copper. What are you talking about? Sure, oxy acetylene is faster at brazing, but for soldering even fucking heat gun would do. Iron, my friend. I grew up in communist country, where copper was considered a western lie, because it would get stolen instantly. Angle grinder and tap die thing, boom. All you need for iron pipe. Oh, and some cannabis thread thing.
Leo Campbell
uve got some gay-ass materials in your shithole, bruh. My pvc pipes r in top shape. Or a cylinder shape
Mason Edwards
Lead for life? You sure about this? PEX is great man. You must be smoking the shit.
Isaiah Gomez
>Oh, and some cannabis thread thing. do you mean horsehair asbestos and tar? because thats why they stopped using it in the US
Luis Cooper
plastic can't handle andy's logs like my throat can
i hope everyone you love dies of cancer slowly in front of you
Jason Fisher
No, I meant real cannabis thread. It was used in my country. Not your cancerous Teflon rubbish
Caleb Johnson
yeah it wasn't teflon but if you want to act like a colossal faggot
Lucas Campbell
OP is right, Copper is King
I have galvanized steel pipe that is rusting to shit, leaking slowly, and tastes like ass, and smells like ass every time I turn on the faucet. Good thing I rent though...
Replace it with schedule 40 copper pipe, none of that thin shit and it will last longer than you and your kids. however, make sure you know what you're doing when soldering. obviously lead free solder but not too much flux or solder otherwise you can corrode the pip or cause little currents from too much solder that will literally etch away the pipe. If its al properly done, you'll never have to worry about it.
