Christiansen, Erik: The Norsemen in the Viking Age. Blackwell, 2002.
It is based on place names.
Areas that have place names named after Vanir are Vanir area.
Areas that have place names named after Æsir are Æsir area.
Should have gotten an american proxy just for this post
Thórr was by far the most popular in the late viking period here in Norway, like for more than 150 years.
I dislike Marvel and DC so much.
Hmmm, men norske arkeologer og historikere mener at Thor var den mest populære i Norge.
The purple area was the population center of Norway during those times, though.
I never knew norwegians were space aliens from a different dimension
Not enough archeological finds to support that. Most hammer pendants etc are found in Sweden and Denmark, among other things.
I think I'll trust in the archeologists and historians over a fat boy from Sup Forums.
But they're the ones who support Christensen's findings, as well as ehat I just said.
They support that Vanir was very popular, not that we "mainly worshiped" them, there's a big difference. Vanir is the older gods, and æsir became more and more popular and peaked in popularity during the viking age, also in Norway. Among both vanir and æsir Thor was by far the most popular god, at least here in Norway, during the viking period. That's what acheologists and historians most agree to here.
link to the article of that map? seems interesting
