your mom

I kinda prefer the flats to the sharps.

For some reason I love A flat or D flat Major, or a nice D minor. If we’re talking keys outside the conventional major/minor system, I really like the flavor of a harmonic minor with a flat 2. You get some nice chromatic movement there, and very bizarre chords base off of the scale degrees.

Trombone player. B flat is life.

I miss music theory. Been away since high school...

Did you hear about the guitar teacher that got arrested for fingering A minor?

I didn’t really pick up on it until after my high school guitar phase. It’s essential for building any worthwhile piano reparations, though.

*repertoire, my damn phonefag is showing

I had 8 years of formal training in classical music, but then drifted away. Even learned some jazz techniques.

Should get back into it, even if in my house alone. Would help with my keyboard and guitar attempts too.

That’s a considerable amount of time spent doing it. I’ve been playing piano for about 15 years now and thoroughly enjoy it. I started off with ragtime and jazz, but lately have been learning selections from classical composers. If you found any satisfaction playing, I encourage you to put back in the time to do it. We need moar people to appreciate some of that art.

I did enjoy it, but i get self conscious about others hearing it and getting bothered. My technique has to be garbage after all these years, but I do know i was good. Best in my class and I barely practiced outside of the lessons. I shouldn't waste all that investment.

I’m sure if you kept at it for that long it’ll come back rather quickly. As you know, developing that technique, learning new pieces, and what else take time and consistence practice. If you are willing to devote the time and effort again, go for it! I wish you the best from the Midwest.

Thanks user! I need to get my playing muscles back in shape (embouchure). Maybe find a local place to play just for fun.

At the least play some dizzy and miles for fun. Midwest too, i feel there are enough of us out here to make bands or groups for fun.

im going to bed, but might ask for a semi-used trumpet for xmas. I was good and should not deprive the world of good music. thanks for inspiration, i need that here

You can play my piccolo anytime, babe.

Thanks for teaching me a new word! Lexicon expanded! Perk unlocked!

Oh, the word in question, if it wasn't obvious, is embochure. Never came across it before. Ever. And I read a lot.

I attempted woodwinds once, total failure. Way to many buttons. Trumpet was small and had 3 buttons, so i choose it. Did okay in the percussion section too, though it was littered with drug addicts and drop outs.

Now I really need a nice trumpet to play (i stole most of the sheet music from lessons, so I have music to play),

thanks for inspiring me, i need to get back to artistic roots again.

Interesting, never heard embouchure used outside of brass and woodwind instruments. Yes playing in groups is fun, but now I get my kicks from completing a Chopin or Debussy piece on my own. St. Louis is a great music town. I recommend checking it out here if you haven’t already.

Don't force art, it has to come naturally. Let it flow. The more you insist on being creative, the less likely you are to be so.

D Double Sharp Harmonic Minor

>embochure
its basically the muscle memory and strength to play whatever respiratory notes in whatever instrument.

Kinda like lifting weights. You stop for a week and your embouchure suffers. I think we'd do lots of scales to get it loose and good again.

Silly me, I assumed you played piano. Brass and woodwinds are difficult. Getting a nice tone is so hard.

Eb minor

I think it is exclusively for oral instruments.

I just need to try again, i gave up and stopped for lazy reasons. would be fun to start again.

A minor 69

my tone was decent, but i had a shit instrument. With a good one it was obviously nice.

I am trying to parley my music knowledge into sheet reading piano and guitar, but its been very slow and lazy. I feel being able to read music helps a bunch though.
