I don't think the gun restrictions here really matter. The reason we don't see a lot of mass shootings in Canada is because of:

1: Tiny population spread over a huge landmass

There is very little difference. Pay a couple hundred bucks, take a weekend course, wait a few weeks and you can own as many guns as you can afford. Restrictions on semi-automatic and magazine capacity are easily worked around by anyone wishing to do so. They're not effective in preventing people from obtaining firearms.

I'm currently looking at moving into a remote region of BC and specifically avoiding any town that has a reserve nearby. Just gotta be smart about it. Research the statistics and demographics of any town and it's neighbouring towns before moving, read local news and shit like that, y'know?

When I took my PAL class the group I was with didn't have any questionable looking people in it. It was like 50% geeky white guys and surprisingly about 50% Asian females (Richmond, so no surprise about the Asian thing, but they were ALL female...). We did a little introduction thing talking about why we were getting into firearms and more than one of the girls said "I play Time Crisis at the arcade every weekend and just want to try the real thing" as their reason.
