I don't think even Hollywood is stupid enough to believe NGE would be a hit with a wide western audience.

It would basically have to be Pacific Rim, which defeats the whole purpose of adapting it the first place.

This, Evangelion doesn't have a big enough fanbase, and it would not be liked by the average Movie goer, due to most people I know not even knowing what NGE even is. The film would be a flop for sure even if it was a good movie.

We can't get a normal movie without execs making it bland generic cash grab shit for plebs. We will never get a good anime adaptation in our life time. Not as long as capitalism roams free.

Watched this last week.
The anime is surprisingly good but the movie was a real disappointment. I only watched the anime for the movie following some autists from Sup Forums but I ended up enjoying the series far more, and I usually trash animu. Unless you really like symbolism so in your face that it becomes post-ironic, End of Evangelion is shit.

If the first 3/4 of the movie was basically a comedy it would have a chance

I like the interaction between the characters and I have a soft spot for robots, but the world was utterly retarded. You have basically strange creatures coming out of fucking nowhere and nobody outside Japan seems to care, in fact most people in Japan seem to live as usual in spite of constantly living in fear of some sort of mass extinction event. It's incomprehensible why people wouldn't mass produce Mechas by the tens of thousands. It can't be technical limitation because they can repair 80% destroyed mechas in a matter of days (which is probably harder than rebuilding one from scratch).

Except no one talks about the symbolism when discussing what makes the anime great and most fans acknowledge that it's there for show and doesn't actually mean much.

So what IS good about it? The tone? That's probably what I'd say.

The characters and their psychology, the scifi elements, the soundtrack and the visuals are all top tier.

How is the symbolism not the SciFi stuff?

Because the scifi stuff is the angels, NERV, eva units, the magi supercomputer, to name just a few, and the symbolism is christian imagery that exists only to reinforce an atmosphere of omnipotence throughout the show?

Characters are all tropes, scifi elements are generic and you get the same thing from every mecha anime, soundtrack is good, visuals are outdated.
