What I dislike about R&M is the creator's obnoxious lack of a sincere & dedicated approach to the show. The creator's revel in their ironic detachment, exemplified most of all in their improv episodes. As if preemptively shielding themselves from criticism by releasing something deliberately half-assed. It is emblematic to me of the creator's lack of genuine insight or a lack of conviction in their own ability. Which would be understandable given the personalities behind the show itself.
Half-assing is only real philosophy of the creators. The show is conceived & shaped through a click-bait understanding of science, a lifetime of media addiction & the only partially digested nietzschean philosophy of the creators. It knowingly spouts the kind of lazy, autodidact, self-serving, personal philosophy of those weaned in the information-era: "Nothing really matters so do whatever you want."
It's a half-baked nihilism dressed up as cynical realism used to justify a shallow unexamined lifestyle of hedonistic "Dopamine is the greatest good". Ironically championed by those who consider themselves more knowledgeable than the rest of the world because they're armed with an internet connection and a wikipedia tab. It aims to make its audience feel smart & clever without making them think too hard. To validates the choices they've already made & reinforces their lifestyles. To makes them feel superior while downplaying their own shortcomings.
In other words. It's reddit.

bullseye.
how will reddit and r&m and the homosexual community ever recover?
>tfw this was written by Justin Roiland
how can a show be more reddit than this show actually is?
that was awful and you should go.
This show is shit.
at this point, rick and morty isn't reddit.
reddit is rick and morty.
I thought the last episode was pretty red pilled actually
are these threads just 1 or 2 people trying to convince everyone R&M is Reddit? Your obsession with the show, and Reddit, is unhealthy
t. reddit
it's quite a few people.
because the shit is disgusting.
This only makes sense if you entirely focus on the character of Rick, which misses out on half the show's title.
Rick's spent a lifetime trotting through dimensions which mirror his, he's seen other versions of himself grow so large that they formed a civilization of their own. Seeing himself being copy and pasted throughout the universe has led to one realisation, he's not special. He's just a single grain of Rick floating through a Rick sandstorm. The irony is that he's constantly referred to as "the Rickest Rick" and is a rogue even by their standards. But even with this shred of individualism, he continues to be indifferent to the world, moving through dimensions and replicant families without blinking an eye.
Morty is his foil. Morties are meant to be disposable, side characters to the Ricks of the universe and distinguished only by their cowardice. However the titular Morty rejects this. Seeing the multiple dimensions astounds him, he's transfixed by the grave of the Morty that he took over in the "Rick Potion No. 9" episode, and he challenges the other Morties to rise up, giving him the title "The One True Morty".
And this influences Rick, who begins to change his behavior and actually care about the idea of Morty and his relatives as individuals , rather than simply being cosmic carbon copies of one another. He risks his like to save his Morty, knowing he could just pick up a new one in another dimension.
So the "half-baked nihilism" of the show that you mentioned isn't meant to be it's driving philosophy, it's meant to be the opposite. In a society like ours that's dominated by quick-fixes of information and the sheer transitory nature of personality that's created by a 24 hour news cycle, Rick and Morty is a show that's built around finding meaning and individuality in a sea of infinite recreation.
>tfw i made up the 'god on my workbench line'
there are a lot of shows people don't like, they usually just don't watch them and go about their day. This is an obsession to hate something you don't even watch... or do you watch it?
What the fuck happened to this website.
Reddit and Memey
Jesus christ what is wrong with you
but that's what this place is for.
and the hatred we have for this show and its fanbase is a moral hatred.
its literally all justin roiland which is just pathetic
How do people unironically like this show?
H-HEY MORTY
LOOK AT THI*BURP*IIS BITCH MORTY
HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT'S HE'S TALKING ABOUT M-MORTY
all Sup Forums boards are extremely contrarian. The hate for shit like rick and morty is compounded with its fedora tipping philosophy, its lel so randum humour, and the fact that its fanbase is plagued with people like pic related
>throws in jokes in a half second that take hours to parse
good lord
My man!
It's Roiland shilling his show.
Yeah, I nearly projectile vommed too.
this is the only kind of person that likes rick and morty, though. i've listened to people in the other room watching it. they shriek with laughter that sounds strangely similar to yelps of pain and distress. they're hypertensive freaks, punked out with neurotic faggots and only the most bitch of them don't use drugs and condoms are for fucking catholics.
I haven't watched the show in a while, but all I can say for sure is that episode where they only did improv TV skits was awful
>*BURP* Hey Morty did you go to the *BURP* store like I asked?
>Y-yeah Rick I s-sure did our fans were t-there with me
>Oh Morty *BURP* good 4th wall hey *BURP* did you *BURP* get *BURP* everything *BURP* on *BURP* the *BURP* list *BU
>W-well I tr-tr-tried Rick except the l-last thing on the list
>'God' is last on the list right *BURP* Morty?
>Y-yeah Rick I couldn't find g-god--
>Exactly Morty! No one can find God because he isn't real! SHIT DICK POOPY POOP WUB DUB
omg the jokes are so clever xD ! just gotta share this one on facebook yall
Doesn't the creator of Rick and Morty come onto Sup Forums and shitpost about how bad his show is?
Justin does, dan doesn't because he'd probably shoot himself
Fucking hate that guy
this is 100% true but also 100% the type of pseudointellectual garbage the creators themselves would write about the show
Saved

how much have you been drinking justin go to bed make a reddit and memey vr game
If you're a fucking idiot, maybe.
See, this is the problem I have with Rick and Morty. Not the show itself, because I don't think the show is half bad. It's the kind of people it attracts. The kind of blithering retards who want to feel smarter than everyone else by watching an "intelligent show" (i.e. a show that all their equally ignorant friends tell them is intelligent). Rick and Morty is good in its own right, but if you have to think about its jokes for a longer amount of time than it takes to get to the next one to fully understand them, or if you're somehow opened up to basic philosophical concepts by its cursory jokes on the topics and find it to be deep or profound in some way, you're a fucking idiot. Rick and Morty doesn't demand smart viewers. it asks that you be somewhat familiar with a few interesting scientific parables so that you can have a little fun with them. People like this, unfortunately, are so horrendously stupid that they mistake good comedy for revolutionary genius.
That's my problem with Rick and Morty. Like so many other decent comedy shows, it's dragged through the dirt by people who don't understand it.
Good post, but no one else will acknowledge you because the current meta of Sup Forums is that this show is shallow and pretentious when really it's anything but that.
Woah... really made me think..
this. The lack of self awareness is astounding. Maybe we should just collectively not take things so seriously. Not everything is a statement, or profundity. Yeah, Rick as a character is overly ambitious to write. They even dub him the smartest man in the unversity or some shit, but maybe he's not supposed to be idealized like everyone here seems to think. He's not a good guy, even if he tries to be sometimes. He's a tragic character imo, and not someone to aspire to.`
Mate, you replying to pasta with a blog post on a Mongolian basket weaving image board while ironically reinforcing why indeed it is Reddit the Show.
...
>One throwaway line where Rick says god isn't real in episode 1 or 2
>Rick even prays to god when he thinks he's going to die
What mean they by this?
We meant that this show is reddit
>Show that has the smartest man alive say "I have to take a shit" multiple times because he can't be bothered to think of another lie.
Here I thought it was because 5 seconds prior he says he forgot his ability to improvise.
Maybe this faggot is still parsing that one.
They literally called him a god twice in the new episode
There is an episode where he tangles with the literal devil and beats him
Rick is beyond ambitious, he's absurd
>ands he Supar smurt
>and hes supar witty
>and and athletic when he wants to be
>and and and... HE GETS ALL THE LADIES, we'll write an episode about how he gets literally ALL the women on a world!
> and and and and he can build whatever he needs whenever
>and and and and and everyone thinks he's cool and if they don't they're LAAAAME
>and and and and and and he's the best with guns
>and...AND SUPER STRONK when he needs to be
>and ANYONE that argues with him he'll make go away because he's THAT badass
>and and...we'll...we'll have him create a universe himself! And we'all make sure to include how sarcastic he is about gods or creators
>Oh shit he might be a Gary Stu...
>but he's like... super sad though
So fucking stupid
Firstly the half assed style while easier than standard comedy, is exactly the type of comedy and you're right, lifestyle, that matches this generation. For that reason though it's one of the only shows that speaks to us in that way, raw and unrefined is a stylistic choice when the normal quota is to put out something polished. It's rebelling against what almost all shows are, and without it's improvisational style would it even really be funny? Maybe but barely. I truly believe this is the best animated comedy out right now.
A click bait understanding of science is still better in my opinion than no scientific exposure. I know this sounds weird but it's done a lot for girls I've known, honestly they all watch it, and all of them would normally trash anything scifi or even close to it. Now they're dealing with concepts like keeping track of alternate realities, or the commentary he adds about culture and morality, all while they're loving it instead of being dragged to say like a sci fi action movie. It's basically the "cool" show on the block now, mostly because of it's writing style and it took science along with it. I think that was the greatest gift it gave, honestly everyone here at college talks about it, people shout catch phrases on the quad, i go to a school with 20k students so it's not like were some weird school where were all similar.
"To validate the choices they've made and reinforce their lifestyle" I think what you're seeking isn't comedy. If the focus was that much on growth and development it might as well be a PBS special. Honestly the underlying themes of culture within it and the criticisms the show makes of it already make a lot of the population who haven't considered such concepts to go "woah". For some reason it seems fair to expect anyone posting on Sup Forums to already have a concept of multiverse theory and modulated time through say a video game, but to 20year old pot smoker, thinking about it for the first time is incredible
Is this just a user review or was someone paid for writing that?
If it's the latter I just don't know what to say, man.
Thank you for your service
