Chaff is more likely what you are describing. The missiles don't explode because they hit the glittery shit, they explode because the glittery shit looks like an actual target on radar and it sets off their proximity detonator.
If you don't know, missiles are designed to explode NEAR their target, not necessarily from hitting it, because this way the target can't evade at the last second resulting in a total miss.

"G-force" is caused by acceleration, the "g" stands for gravity, yes, but it doesn't have anything to do with the gravity of earth, other than being a reference to how many "G's" one is experiencing due to acceleration, with 1 G being the felt force of Earth's gravity on your body.
