Lets be honest, it's what it's really for. Russia is the only world actor with the tiniest, TINIEST chance of maybe some day throwing a nuke in our direction if the world goes to shit, so if they nuke London then the trident subs are there to do the same thing to Moscow. Eye for an eye.

I dunno, man. China is trying to fuck my country's ass and I can't help but think that if we had a couple dozen of ICBMs pointed at them, they wouldn't be stirring asia's pot as hard right now.

That said, I don't think my country is responsible enough to have nukes.

Fully aware that the wealthy in Russia have plenty of investment here and like to have their kids educated in our universities, but think of how bad the world situation would have to be in if nations were even contemplating using nukes. A few young adults and offshore investments probably aren't going to weigh in too much in a situation as stark as that.


I'm fine with trade. Frankly I wouldn't mind a closer relationship with Russia. But that doesn't diminish the (tiny) potential threat of nuclear conflict in the future in some fucked up situation and Trident is our bargaining chip (or revenge chip) if it comes to it.
