is death really that bad? assuming that the atheists are the correct ones wouldn't just be the equivalent of the time before you were born

idk, what do you remember from before you were born?
>the equivalent of the time before you were born
So, nothingness?
i wouldn't remember anything when i'm dead assuming i don't have a consciousness
Don't assume retarded atheists are correct.
There is no undeniable proof that there was no afterlife.
You can’t prove a negative. So yeah, you’re technically right, but that is far from proving that there’s a magical land where all your dead pets live in the clouds with angels and shit.
Atheists are almost certainly right.
There is nothing and there’s nothing else. It’s not sad, it muted. It’s just sad for everybody else. You won’t care then, but if you care for them now, don’t be a dead faggot.
Death isn't the party should be scared about. It's the Aging. Withering away truly sucks
>is death really that bad?
Can something that big really be considered to occupy a position on the good-to-bad scale? Or should death be considered beyond morality?
>There is no undeniable proof that there was no afterlife
>"I can just make shit up and it's your job to prove me wrong"
Burden of Proof isn't supposed to be a difficult concept.
Why do you ask such stupid questions?
Of course it would be the equivalent of the time before being born. Nothingness. What kind of retarded question is that? Retard nigger faggot piece of shit rat.
Death is still not better than life since the time you'll be "nothing" is infinite and theres infinitely more "nothing" than something. You being on this universe, able to observe, feel, love explore and learn is such an absurd and insane thing, that throwing this short amount of time away is the most retarded thing you can do UNLESS you're suffering from a serious illness or shit like that.
Also fuck you retarded nigger faggot cunt
there wouldn't be a concept of time if you're dead nigger
i'm also not an edgelord trying to kms, i was just wondering
Where did I say that you fucking retard? I just used the infinite time we're dead and unborn as an example to show how short and valuable our lifes are. Go fucking jump off a bridge you braindead niggercock sucking, smelly ugly virgin fuck.
Basically
You don't remember anything bc there was nothing and that's where we're headed back to. It's just a big void of emptiness where nothing, not even memories, exist.
you clearly implied it you rampant nigger
Burden of Proof Fallacy
I can't prove to you that unicorns don't exist, but until some evidence is produce I'm not going to believe in unicorns.
get a load of this seething retard.
death is something you have disappearing. not being born isn't. not the same
>You can’t prove a negative.
yes you can
>Claiming that it is impossible to prove a negative is a pseudologic, because there are many proofs that substantiate negative claims in mathematics, science, and economics, including Arrow's impossibility theorem. There can be multiple claims within a debate.
No. It's not bad. Concepts like hell are bad. I can't believe that people still believe in concepts like hell in today's day and age. I think people will just fool themselves into believing whatever they want to believe.
It wasn't bad before you were born, was it? It wont be bad after your gone. The people who are left behind to grieve are the real people who are suffering.
wouldn't you still be in the same state of nothingness regardless?
I honestly believe In reincarnation. I don’t think our souls or energy just disappears I feel it has to go somewhere.
I'm mostly inclined to agree with you, but the one thing I'd question is assuming that just because you dont remember means nothing happened. Anyone who's ever drank enough to black out can tell you that just because you dont remember, doesn't mean nothing happened. That being said odds are greatly in favor of the "afterlife" simply being shit humans made up.
>souls or energy
stfu with your retarded new age hippy bullshit
>The people who are left behind to grieve are the real people who are suffering.
This. Death is an escape, but it comes with a horrible cost.
>I don’t think our souls or energy just disappears
you have zero reason to believe in a soul or spirit. one hundred percent of the evidence shows that the mind is emergent from the brain in active consciousness, memory storage, personality traits, etc
>Death is an escape
kill yourself if you believe that, death is death to people who love life not an edgy poetic metaphor
doesn't matter if you "feel" it has to go somewhere the hell
Okay, I'm going to explain how you can't die but you can die. Let's say you die - then you don't receive input from the universe like before you were born, but a new conscious self will emerge from the birth of another "observer" perspective - it will replace the you that you know, giving you a reset in a new body and mind. Maybe you'll become a flea, or an alien species on a distant planet. Basically you will die from everyone else's perspective but your own because you can't observe your own death.
Or there's an afterlife, which might exist.
Entropy of the universe is always increasing. Reincarnation is a nonsensical claim with absolutely nothing to support it.
>implying your consciousness transfers
more retarded shit people make up
believe whatever the hell you wan't about death, because nobody knows what is on the other side. People made religion to help cope and comprehend certain unexplained things in the universe, such as the sun or the crops growing. That is why you see less prominent religions today. But some things will most likely never be answered, so you can speculate all you wan't about life after death. Because nobody can prove you wrong (yet).
is that literally just a complicated version of reincarnation
>Don't kys
>kys
Pragmatically, death is preferable to Life in the same way that 0 is preferable to infinity. 0 never has to count, it never has to change, it never has to mean anything... but infinity is always working. the job's never done. always moving, changing.
But conversely, 0 never gets to experience the wonders of counting... Like when occasionally, in infinity, dubs will be achieved. hell maybe even trips. Infinity gets to grow and grow, experiencing new complex strings every waking second. 0 doesn't feel joy, it doesn't feel inquisitiveness, it just sits silently.
Perhaps, one will encounter a particularly unpleasant string of numbers, and want to stop counting forever- reset the counter and pause forever. And that's understandable, but the timer will (as far as we can guess) never start again when you do. Maybe after that nasty string was a beautiful one, but you never got to see it. It won't matter to you as a 0, that's true, but is it not a shame one of us cosmic entities will have been denied those pleasantries in their one, measly lifetime?
Kek i wasnt created yet before i was born . didnt have a soul placed in this human body yet also memory doesnt begin in the brain till months into already being born hoe
I remember the times before I was born -- it was a quiet time. All this hustling noise was happening about, what appeared to be next door. I would often hear this noise not knowing what it was. All of a sudden I was rapidly drawn near to it. YUCK! I exclaimed, All this bright light and gooiness. My senses were flooded and I was miserable to be slammed into the existence of my next door neighbor
This is true. Existence is not infinite, the structural nature of atoms that leads to molecules and things like gas and solids only exists because we are in a mixing state of the universe that allows structured objects to exist. Think of how you first pour milk into coffee or tea. There's structure. That's where we are at in the age of the universe. It's just a low enough entropy state, but that entropy increases and the milk fully mixes in to a uniform existence but the funny part about the universe is that it's ever expanding. Pretty soon structured objects will cease to exist, the expansion of the universe will no longer allow things like atoms to exist, and all that'll be left are the black holes that formed in our universe. Yet, those also radiate and will dissipate... very violently at the last instances of their existence. Then we are left at the end of the universe. Just vast emptiness of nothing. That's where we all go. Even the Universe.
This argument intrigues me. While I don't believe in reincarnation, i'd like to humor the stance.
Think of it like this, consciousness isn't being transferred; it's more like a radio frequency. When one is born, it's been "routed" onto your consciousness's frequency (like data to a server). When one dies, the hardware must be replaced. The software, though, is being hosted elsewhere (or rather just some intangible force at work). So the consciousness can be rerouted to a new domain, but it requires a factory reset. Your consciousness continues, but for all purposes it's not you anymore- you just shared the same consciousness host as the guy before and after you.
Scientifically backed reincarnation
If the concept of consciousness is ever measurable these things could be tested, then you get scenarios depicted in shows like Altered Carbon
This is comforting in a way, it's the final act of the play that we call the Universe. The way you describe atoms, it always baffles me that they exist as opposed to not existing. Why they exist is the wrong question. For the laws of the universe are not bound to moral or philosophical quandaries. BUT WHY DO THEY EXIST? What reaction caused things to be, what caused the previous reaction to that? I've always believed that things happen as a reaction to their environment and actions.
>atheists are the correct
not really an accurate statement. The default atheist position is to not accept claims about gods and the afterlife. it is NOT an assertion that there are no gods or afterlife. There are some atheist who do assert that, but they are a subset of atheism and do not necessarily represent the views of everyone who calls themselves an "atheist"
more like a really shitty hypothesis
no it's just pretending that a completely different consciousness emerging in the same universe is you. it isn't. it's a dumb ass paragraph from a stoned teenager
There is no undeniable truth there is an afterlife.
Too verbose, not insulting.
You might have a point if you toned down the obscenities.
the point would still stand regardless
>How they exist
we have an idea of that
>home.cern
>why they exist
that's kind of a pointless question. like why does light exist? we know how it started, which is that the universe expanded enough to allow photons to freely propagate and not just be absorbed by neighboring atoms that raises their electrons to a higher energy state. But there is no reason for it to exist. Some theorize multi-verses and countless universes that have existed on varying timescales before this one, think of universes that exist for 0.00000000001 seconds or some that make it to 0.00000000000001 seconds. Of course using our concept of time to gauge their length of existence is pointless since we have only a classical knowledge of time for us (as opposed to a quantum understanding of it). Yet, most of those theories become untestable at some point.
Havn't told this story to anyone but my sister since it's fucking weird story
>10 year old me
>got some presents for my moms' birthday
>go home by bus
>go out of the bus in front of it running across the street
>get hit by a trailer going 60
>everything went dark
>see a glimmer of light
>a person with strings attatched to her body arrives
>pic related, sort of looks like it, no wings tho
>says nothing
>no sounds whatsoever from the surroundings
>walk with her among weird creatures
>they seem to be looking at earth from a different dimension
>she leads me to a huge miniataur looking thing
>it points at openings in the ground
>seems to go on forever, a billion of them
>the one closest to him has me laying on the asphalt
>the others are other human babies
>some are just different animals and insects
>I walk to the hole where I'm at
>point at it
>I wake up at the asphalt
>fucking 10/10 pain
>doctor says: "hold him down"
I think I was in some sort of fucked up dimension for awhile, and an afterlife exists. You can choose what you want to become next for whatever reason.
>I wake up at the asphalt
if you woke up that probably implies it was just some weird dream
I get that the "why" is pointless. I even stated that but it's just so amazing that anything exists at all, including light. It could have easily not have been and we wouldn't have been here to ponder it.
Thanks for that link
An afterlife does not make sence.
The universe 13.8 billion years old
Earth is 5.54 billion years old
Humanity has been around 200,000 years
Civilization has been around about 6,000 years.
So 13.8 billion minus 6,000 = About a decimal point, a million zero's and the number 1
Even if humans were around a billion years, which they weren't, that would be 13.7 billion year without humans.
Are you saying an afterlife filled with nothing for no purpose exsisted for 13.7 Billion years?
Religious People only pretend to be this retarded, it's the only possability.
Right?
It seemed so real. I have never had anything that even comes close to that when I dream, it's just random bullshit which I forget 10-15 seconds after I wake up. I never forgot that one and what I did. I have seen that creature one more time when I ate WAY too much flein mushrooms. I have only used magic mushrooms 3 times, and basic shit happens like the floor seem to be moving, or things change shapes or colors. I went to lay down on my bed when I took too much, and I saw that same creature looking at me from the opening of the door. It's fucking creepy.
shit guess i just have to get stoned to travel through dimensions
Weird shit happens when you get fucked up like that. A lot of these "afterlife" events during near death episodes is just hallucinations. I had my heart stop for a bit, so pretty much "dead" so to speak. After having it start back up, not sure how it started up again, I started breathing again. EMT were surprised but I eventually became fully aware of my surroundings. I just remember emptiness during the time I was out. Like a deep sleep with no dreams or feelings. I always figured that's what death is like.
Would not reccomend. I havn't touched it since the last time. Fuck drugs.
yeah thats no good!
>It could have easily not have been
assertion
This is how I’ve made peace with death as an atheist. I remember passing out in high school and not even remembering going under when I woke up, it was the most silent/serene “sleep” I’ve ever had so if death is anything like that it’s not a bad thing.
i've taken mushrooms and lsd plenty of times and never saw monsters or had nightmare experiences. the problem isn't the drugs, it's that you're crazy
i guess you would just be... nothing. not even thinking because you would be nothing, maybe be aware that you are nothing is possible while being nothing... but i guess there is only one way user, try it out or try to "unplug" your own conciousness by any way possible"
think it depends on his mood as that heavily affects the subconscious mind
Yeah deaths not so bad I know from experience
This fucking guy
>are you retarded?
I can assure you I'm not crazy. The things I've seen on shrooms were just the usual basic shit, floor is lava etc, but I saw that exactly the same creature one time when I took too many drugs (which I know is supposed to be impossible, shrooms don't show you lifelike creatures) I quit drugs alltogether. I havn't seen any weird things since, so I'm definately not crazy.
Maybe, I don't know. It didn't seem like a hallucination since I have done drugs that made me hallucinate. It's not even close to the same thing.
well it wouldn't be bad but it also wouldn't be good, i think there's also a huge stigma on death so people wouldn't be attempting suicide
Im in contact with the Light. something sciency i cant understand but it says its a semi hivemind of some sort and its a nice place to go. Extremely low standards. Lots of... Sex for some reason? Its sortof strange. I see quite a few distressed buildings. The ancestors are there tho.
"It can be slightly glitchy at times."
"Ask more specifically your concerns"
"Always twilight time."
"The environment is procedurally generated. Always good stuff to find. There is a Wow factor."
"Many collaberate to be charitable to the incast. To recover from injuries. Some injuries continue after."
Narwhals, nigga.
So the measurable energy that is in our bodies before we die and is not afterwords is this quantifiable thing. The nature of energy of that it never disappears, it just transmits into a different form; for lack of a more fitting ten in this case, one could refer to it as a "soul" that energy leaves the body, why would it be hard to connect that concept to the idea that the energy is what is left of a life leaving whatever body it inhabits. Things like memory and emotion are chemical and physical in nature, so I mean they are left with the body, but the Animus goes somewhere.
What if I don't believe in burden of proof? o.0
"A party. I speak of two things."
"For families. Your science is not enough."
Well yeah, you wouldn't even know you were dead, you just be nothing. The same as you were nothing in 1880 or 1330, and didn't notice it. The actual dying part though, that could be pretty rough
"Rehabilitation from loss."
"Money is not important. Love important". "We defeat a dignitary." "I can carry you.
"Spiritual and physical rejuvination"
"Gateway to..."
"...fine." "*Nods"
"All roads lead this way." "But no virgins"
"Come."
"You are... Resisting"
"I will You soon."
When you die everything goes black, like sleeping forever probably. There is no reason to believe there's an afterlife, much less one written about in any mainstream religion because there is no proof of such. Typically the part of dying that sucks is the actual process of dying.
>the usual basic shit, floor is lava etc
nobody i know who has tripped has ever seen that
>I saw that exactly the same creature one time when I took too many drugs (which I know is supposed to be impossible, shrooms don't show you lifelike creatures)
yeah, shrooms don't do that. your own brain does, shrooms probably made it easier for your own personal hallucinations to show up though
>I havn't seen any weird things since, so I'm definately not crazy.
excuse me for dismissing your clinical analysis, doctor
actually one guy i know who tripped on shrooms did see some fucked shit like raining blood and demons. he was definitely crazy and has since killed himself
Basically the universe dies and gets re big banged and it all repeats but never quite the same way. So just enjoy what you can because you're stuck with eternity.
"Whatever or not." "Do not fight." "Sure."
who the fuck puts writing on a portal
Sleeping implies some form of dormant consciousness. You wouldn't any longer have the ability to comprehend blackness or sleep. It would be the Polar opposite of your current state, nothingness.
"Screw you guys. Im going home."
Conciousness ends when you're asleep and when you're dead so it's basically the same thing
Better explanation, yeah. I was using the idea of "sleep" to simplify it.
