I recently saw Spike Lee's Jungle Fever. It was incredibly erotic and provocative, and really changed the way I thought about power relations in the unspoken racial hierarchy of America. Unironically watched Jungle Fever the other day too. I thought it was pretty interesting, particularly paying attention to the social/racial intersections between the Italian-American and African-American families: it was fairly interesting how often the Italian families were the ones socially coded as "black" compared to the well-off black middle class we see, and the corresponding fear/neurosis of the black underclass contained within Gator. Plus the absence of maternal figures in all the Italian families vs the very strong, almost domineering figures in the black households. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would
