Why? Because it's all been retconned lmao. You wasted your time for NOTHING
Chase Harris
This. Expanded universe BTFO.
Angel Rogers
>read a book >it's a text file
Jackson Nelson
Popular misconception, KIDDO.
When Disney bought star wars, it's true that they made all extended universe not canon, however that was so they could pave their own path and make an extended canon that is completely in continuity with the movies. All old EU is now "Legends" and everything published after 2014 is canon
Eli Reed
>Reading books The star wars audiobooks are nutoriously good for having awesome audiobooks. Full soundtrack, sound effects, occasionally even multiple voice actors
Kevin Martin
>Not having an ereader
Leo Wright
I watched the clone wars and that was pretty solid
Aaron Long
>introduce character >develop character over multiple stories >20 years later character gets retconned by corporate jews >character gets reintroduced >written with the exact same characteristics >re released in shitty 3d form for a 20 minute timeslot
whats the fucking point
Isaiah Fisher
The characters all have stupid, made up names and they're all glib facsimiles of actual Star Wars characters.
Daniel Sanchez
>The stories are objectively better than the ones in the movies
Learn the difference between Canon and Legends. It could save your life.
Jose Jackson
canon is shit and legends isn't
Jose Russell
If they canonized ANY old story that had Thrawn, none of it would work. The stories simply don't fit in line with the new movies and ec.
They clearly are doing the best they can to appeal to old fans though. The original author of Heir to the Jedi wrote a new canon book all about thrawns upbringing
Adrian Edwards
Have you read the new Thrawn?
Written by Timothy Zahn, apparently it's sorta a prequel to S3 of Rebels and a rewrite of Thrawn's canon proper
Brody Stewart
i didn't read either because they're a fucking waste of time, but probably not as big of a waste as writing the same character twice
Asher Young
WHERE DO I START
Adam Wilson
Which one of those links has an epub of the new Thrawn book?
Grayson Gutierrez
They're talking about the new EU wich has three REALLY bad books and a bunch of good to great books and comics, plus the Rebels cartoon.
Hunter Phillips
...
Leo Thompson
The Clone Wars tv series introduces a lot of concepts it helps to understand while getting into deeper stuff. Quite a few books and comics rely on you having seen it.
If you are uninterested in that though, try the Star Wars and Darth Vader comic series. They are pretty solid with Vader being the better of the twk
Joseph Young
"All canon novels and comics"
Juan Hill
>blue aliens Shitty Yamato rip-off
Leo Robinson
>Luke >Luuke >Luuuke
Kayden Lopez
Thanks Buddy, nearly bought the hardback today, wasn't sure if the new book would have been pirated already
Hudson Ward
>disney nu-wars no thanks you can keep that garbage
Jack Powell
That pastebin is from the Sup Forums star wars general. Usually stuff is updated the day it comes out with the exception of reference books and stuff. I always check it before I buy any physical star wars stuff
Jonathan Turner
That's cute
Daniel Lewis
>Waaah! Waaaah! Disney!
Nathaniel Butler
Kyle Katarn is what is worth keeping.
Fuck the rest
Thomas Diaz
Tbh he's probably coming eventually
Ayden Baker
Katarn is the only good thing about the SW EU, Thrawn is alright but only his arc in TIE Fighter, Zahn's novel series is alright but overrated (being the best of the SW EU isn't that big of an accomplishment).
Josiah Thompson
Can someone explain to me the appeal of katarn? Isn't he just han solo with a lightsaber?
Juan Nelson
>and it's all canon and in continuity with the movies.
...until they decide to retcon something for the movies and BTFO bookfags.
They already did it with the lost star in Rogue One. They don't give a shit.
David Miller
The Expanded Universe is, for the most part, really bad. There are a handful of gems:
>Thrawn series >X-Wing series >Episode 3 Novelization (so much better than the movie it's not even close) >Darth Bane series >Young Jedi Knights series (only read this if you're a kid, it's like the Harry Potter series of Star Wars)
Pretty much everything else is bad. There are, of course, highlights here or there, but it's very similar to the prequels and to Ep 7/Rogue One in the sense of "it's bad, but this ONE PART is really good!". But unless you're a full-blown Star Wars autist, don't bother with the rest of that crap.
Christopher James
I don't get the Katarn love at all. He's just Han with force powers, very boring and uncreative. He was the protagonist of a good video game, but so was Jaden in "Jedi Academy" and Starkiller "Force Unleashed" and nobody says those were good characters.
Owen Lee
What?
Michael Nelson
>Darth Bane Is he a big guy? Does he wear the mask?
Elijah Flores
That's all Legends now
The ec is better imo. The stories feel like they actually matter since it's all a shared universe
Jeremiah Perez
>Episode 3 Novelization (so much better than the movie it's not even close)
You mean the one where Anakin moves at lightspeed in lightsaber combat?
Owen Torres
>they're clones What's the problem?
Hunter Rivera
>YESS YESS DISNEY TAKE MY MONEY
Jayden Cruz
he's a white male though there's no way disney will put him in.
Justin Jackson
They could just make him a ftm trans
Aiden Rivera
>Force Unleashed >good game And you need other people to explain their opinions?
In any case, I like Kyle Katarn, because while he is somewhat overpowered because he's a protagonist, he's probably the best version of a "gray Jedi" type of character. From his character background he has a good balance between being a stuffy, restrained idealist, and a power-for-the-sake-of-power edgelord. He's pragmatic and relatable, and while he's arguably powerful, has believable weaknesses and regrets. He's just a well-rounded character, especially for a protagonist character of multiple video games.
Sebastian Cruz
is that where i start with the thrawn shit?
Angel Nelson
you could say that
Isaiah Hernandez
that armor still looks stupid
Ian Morales
If you are interested in thrawn, start with the new novel "Thrawn" released earlier this week. It's in the OP link.
It's about his upbringing and rising through the imperial ranks.
If you still want more, he's the main villian of Star Wars Rebels season 3, which I suppose you could blindly jump into, but it's really best if you watch season 1 and 2 first.
Ayden Sanders
That's horrible artwork. Bane's armor is supposed to look like a crustacean's shell, not a fatass lazy cosplayer.
Christopher Jackson
No. To start and finish with Thrawn, you read The Thrawn Trilogy.
1. Heir to the Empire 2. Dark Force Rising 3. The Last Command
And that's it. Everything else is shit.
Grayson Bell
Not canon Lmao
Ryder Rodriguez
What the fuck did they even do to him here?
Camden Reed
Tbh I like this design a lot more. The old outfit was cool in concept, but looked horrible when it was seen anywhere but described in a book
Caleb Carter
I like the samurai look
Nolan Russell
something like this then?
Landon Sanchez
do we need another movie/comic/game to reintroduce kyle? hasn't his character been already completely dissected by disney already?
his ship was given to kanan his beard was given to kanan the jedi/merc thing was given to kanan the darktrooper project resolution was also given to kanan
Noah Brooks
Kanan is cooler anyway desu
Cooper Peterson
yeah really they put way more work into kanan he's so epic and badass
Robert Lopez
You said it, not me
Joseph Taylor
Do you think they'll ever make movies out of the really ancient history of star wars?
I want to see massive lotr style battles between jedi and sith
Kevin Howard
I like this aesthetic
Isaac Reed
why everyone cream themselves over this blue fuck?
James Moore
How far back did the old canon go to?
Michael Mitchell
Probably eventually. Not for a while though.
Evan Morales
yeah they should add slow motionj and a badass cowboy had character with revolvers. they should also use the clone wars (2008) art style and barely texture anything. bioware and ea should also make it into an mmo it would be sooo good badass and epic BRO
Kevin Butler
25 thousand years prior to ANH.
Pic related
Nathan Martinez
Do they go into detail on what happened when the first Jedi was born, dark or light?
Owen Lewis
Why are you such a faggot?
Sebastian Robinson
i watched too much star wars that was made by jewish women
Carson Wood
I think the KotOR game series ruined that era. Back when it was only depicted in comics, it had a strange psuedo-organic exoticism to it, hyperspace travel could still be dangerous, and worlds that were part of the Republic were still heavily independent and self-managing. It had a lot more space to be interesting and differing cultures, aesthetics, and factions. But the games, for familiarity, turned that era into prequel generic aesthetic.
The KotOR games are set around 4000 years before the films, and a lot of the Old Republic comics were maybe a generation or a few generations before that (Exar Kun's crusade and war was one of the big events, and that was mentioned in KotOR as happening maybe a generation before the game was set). 20,000 years before the films, the Republic might've been around but I don't remember exactly. I know the Hutts had a spacefaring civilization early on, and when the Republic was founded, it was a very loose government, and hardly had galactic control. Most of the galaxy was still unexplored, and hyperspace travel was dangerous and traversible routes were known and controlled by local star systems, so you had regional powers that would fight or scheme against eachother. Force-sensitives would run the gambit to crazy hermit wizards, to warlords, to ascetic monks.
Levi Campbell
they said it was a kid that blew his nose off with the force trying to pick it
Aaron Jenkins
Not sure. Probably worth looking into though
Jason Bailey
Man, whoever made this must be pretty bummed now to have put so much work in a cosplay for a retconed character. Fuck nu-SW.
Sebastian Reed
Most people aren't tismo enough to care.
Jason Russell
>exar kun
James Martin
Tbh they probably see it as worth it considering how much better the new canon is
Aiden Stewart
Why do people say this as if that suddenly erased every copy of the book from existence. It wasn't canon even before it was declared noncanon so who gives a care?
Nathaniel Perez
nice meme
Ayden Sanchez
What is the appeal of thrawn?
Xavier Green
anyone have bigger luke? seems it got removed from wookiepedia
Lucas Allen
That's just because it's a maymay. It's not like nobody ever took it seriously
Brandon Wright
>What the FUCK is your excuse? 99% of it is garbage, and I don't have time for garbage when non-garbage exists.
Star Wars is also one of the most shitty sci fi universes out there.
>99% of it is garbage, and I don't have time for garbage when non-garbage exists. I agree with this, but this: >Star Wars is also one of the most shitty sci fi universes out there I disagree with completely. The potential of the Star Wars universe is incredible. The galactic scale, the diversity of sapient creatures and connection of societies and cultures, the lengthy history and wide time periods to have stories in, and a well-established base of "magic" or mysticism via the Force.
The universe loosely built from the Star Wars franchise is the best thing about the series, easily. So rich and dynamic in potential. Of course the gross majority of media is bad, and a lot of the universe has cliches, tropes, and homages to others, but it's potential as a universe is unrivaled in fantasy or sci-fi.
Any human story from any time period or any theme, you could plug into the Star Wars universe and make it work, thematically and aesthetically. You could have age of exploration stories about some Hutt cruisers exploring the early galaxy; you could take the Romance of Three Kingdoms era of China and make it star systems fueding in the early days of the Republic. You could have West Side Story set on Coruscant between rival gangs. What made the original Star Wars so well-liked is how thematically simple and relatable it was, and the universe has that same adaptability and relatability, and that's what makes it so great. It is unfortunate that the majority of media is mediocre, and every story is basically "gotta save the entire galaxy again". But the universe itself is great.
Grayson Perry
That file name is triggering me. A duel is an arranged battle between 2 people. Not 6.
