the jaw split kind of freaked me out, also all the evangelion music was kind of a cool touch
Now this was an Atomic Breath worthy of Godzilla. If Kong was going up against this one, he'd have no chance.
Shin Godzilla was amazing. Loved everything about it.
Yep. I can't decide if there should be a sequel though. It's good as a standalone film and sequels probably wouldn't stand up to it.
This movie was lit.
>lens: 1000mm
What
So did a proper rip of this movie with english subtitles ever come about?
Yaguchi >>> Quickass, fight me on the moon
Yes, check nyaa.se
>some fucking edit to make the eyeglow

I thought it was a real concept they had, but decided against using it in the film.
No clue, the weird glazed over oil look was far creepier and seemed like it served a purpose
It was originally going to be used, but it looked kinda silly.
It was and . Anno wanted to do it but thought it wouldn't be taken seriously. Definitely wouldn't work in the west, but I personally like it.
this autistfu was great
When this switched QUICK SILVER I made an audible "ohhhhhh shiiit"
>the people that like this stuff are the same that shit on capeshit, star wars etc. for being dumb and childish
>Anno wanted to do it but thought it wouldn't be taken seriously.
Now I'm actually looking forward to 4.444, if Anno can actually punch himself in the balls to avoid a misstep like that there's hope.
She came off as a very genuine character, even when people questioned her theories she took it in stride and didn't brag when they were confirmed, plus that scene there was the perfect way to show she was very much still a human being.
Probably a nictitating membrane, similar to birds and reptiles, to protect the eye from the fire / debris / whatever
I shit on capeshit because it requires zero brain power to "enjoy". Shin Godzilla had thematic depth to it that, even if you cannot appreciate, you cannot deny is more significant than anything in any recent Disney film.
honestly those visuals are cutting edge and Anno knows how to get a feeling of scale on a screen like none other.
Also he has such a good hand for details, its incredible.
Ithe entire buildup was great, from belching radioactive fuel, to fire to that horrific screeching laser
BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
It'd be cool if humans had one. Make seeing under water a lot easier.
has anyone watched any of anno's films other than this and evangelion related shit? i'm intrigued, he's genuinely a good filmmaker
>Definitely wouldn't work in the west
Sounds like a strange thing to say, since the whole movie felt like it didn't give a damn whether the western mass market would like it or not. It was already full of stuff that would make your average non-Jap moviegoer go .
Though with the way the glowing effect was done in that test shot, I'm glad they took it out.
I've heard his Cutey Honey is a helluva trip, it also stars
well gunbuster of course which is like prototype EVA with more tits.
I went in blind and was expecting monster battles but the movie was still good. Very reminiscent of the original.
There's a leftover bit of a similar membrane in the corner of the human eye. So our ancestors probably had them.
...
They did what SOME attention, though...it was ultimately ANNO who didn't care. The people even said while planning the film "we want to show Hollywood whose boss". In the end, they kinda did...
It's pretty much a more in-depth look at what would happen if Godzilla actually attacked modern Japan, the politics, the scientific analysis, even the way they attack Godzilla makes sense with the use of drone warfare and high altitude bombers.
Wanna see more Spooky gunships in movies though
To the average western pleb Godzilla is treated like capehsit, but western fans have fucking shit for brains too.
It's a CGI shot, they can make the lens as wide as they want
>dude godzilla is deep lmao
imagine the autism needed to create and save and image like this
Yeah that's true, I remember their early press releases and shit. The plans to sell the movie to a hundred countries or whatever. Ultimately, maybe it's better that they appealed more to their own base instead of aiming for some wider renown.
I'm still kinda salty the movie was for a long time so hard to come by for a Eurofucker like me, since practically no company bothered to distribute a film that was so fucking niche. But seeing how well it did back at home, perhaps a Japanese resurgence was what the franchise needed most.
>get killed by a few cranes and coolant
>tfw finally beaten that boss yesterday
chibi
>killed
I don't know about that
Who would win in a fight?
go to bed Sup Forumsmblr
Shin has superior range, aim and firepower, that's not to say any of the other Godzillas would do better but Shin is a complete freak of nature
If Goji2014 can survive the atomic breath of Shin, he could win the battle.
That picture is very accurate though.
The people on the right are the ones who shit on the original movie and Shin Godzilla for not being capeshit enough but are mostly middle aged people who only grew up with the Showa Godzilla (which was easy to find in the 90's) and thus shit like vs Megalon has colored their impressions that Godzilla has to always be that way or it's not 'fun' enough. There's a reason so many of them are furries, roleplayers or capeshit fans. These people don't care about movies.
>have never watched a jap godzilla film before
where do i start
At the beginning.
why does this movie look like a video game
Here you go chum, don't know who made this but it's a good one.
Budget was only 10-15 million.
Ignore all the Showa movies. Don't let nostalgiafags tell you that they are funny and entertaining, they are mediocre.
Take this guy's post with a grain of salt, you should at least check out both Mechagodzilla movies from the showa era.
That's like all of them. What are the good ones if not those, because everything that approaching the millennium seemed like shit from what I've seen and heard from people.
I liked Shin Godzilla because of the terror of Godzilla, and the political criticisms and stuff with the human characters. If i don't give a fuck about toys slamming into each other, what Godzilla films are worth watching then?
The 1954 movie, the 1985 movie and Godzilla 2000 (until the third act).
Did you get all your information from /m/?
There's a reason that in Japan the Heisei Godzilla is still 'the' Godzilla (until Shin Godzilla came out)
So those were baby Godzillas at the end or what?
twitter.com
Shin Godzilla could've looked like *THAT*
I looked at this list and saw most of the films are Showa films (including the original)
just watch the original and then shin godzilla
literally all you need
I am pretty sure this shot is in the film...?
except for that cheesy ass plan with trains and truck
Wasn't that still used? This isn't a Thing prequel bullshit, there's no way that just got thrown out..
Good as any, and it was cool as fuck to look at. Plus, it carried that theme about nationalism and pulling together with all that you can muster.
Any proper translation?
No no no no no
Is not it super good! It moves to the eyes!
I know why I did not use it because I read it on a zeart, but I definitely want to say it!
Why did not you use it! It is! It is!
Nope the puppet was completely scrapped and done over with CG
The Jap even in that tweet is basically screaming 'Why did you not use it!!'
They're the fifth stage of his evolution
>killed
lol nope
Not to mention you intentionally left out the bullet trains packed with explosives and the fucking skyscrapers averaging 200 kilotons toppling over him giving the team seconds to dump that coolant.
I think it was just talking about the eyes, cause Godzilla just had googly eyes.
Ah, the CG shot is still really cool though. I'm not a long-time godzilla fan, but the scene was super intimidating regardless.
That's a massive if. And we're just assuming that his current known form went up against 2014 Godzilla. If he actually did grow wings, who the fuck knows.
I was in Japan and they had this super cool 3-disc edition of the movie and I wanted to get it for the special features, but of course none of them were subbed. I hope we get that same release over here :(
What? That chart right there is saying Showa is goofy and the Heisei movies were more serious, it doesn't make judgements on quality.
I wouldn't go as far as that guy calling the whole era garbage but I would suggest skipping all of them (except the original obviously) except Monster Zero, Destroy All Monsters and the two MechaGodzillas, and maybe vs Hedorah if you're ready to go insane.
>I specifically requested the opposite of this
...
...
I fucking loved the design of Godzilla in Shin Godzilla.
Its evolutionary stages were increasingly threatening.
1000mm lens is an extreme telephoto lens.
I swear Transformers is pure /milkino/. Bay did it justice.
>make a Shin-Gojira concept for other Godzilla monsters
>just copy everything from Gojira and call it a day.
Yeah.
>Not showing the one where it goes from flame to laser.
Fuck that boss
Only three other movies don't have monster brawls. Most importantly the original (which is a must anyway) and the 1984 one (not to be confused with its 1985 US edit which deliberately cranked up the cheese).
These aim for a more serious tone, and they are the most political entries on the franchise, aside from Shin. '84 does suffer from a mediocre human plot that doesn't come close to delivering the drama of the original, and instead of having another giant monster to fight, Godzilla briefly clashes with a flying tank thing.
The third is the '98 Murican one.
The followup to the '84 film, Godzilla vs Biollante does have monsters duking it out, but it also tries to keep a more serious feel, features the topic of bio engineering and eco terrorism, and it awkwardly tosses in some esoteric, psychic bullshit too which I personally never cared for. But a lot of fans praise it, and it was voted the best Godzilla film by a bunch of Nips some years ago.
After '84 and Biollante, the series went back to crowd-pleasing corniness, aping Western movies, and repeating itself over and over.
What if I really like shin and 2014 for different reasons?
weak mind
that's fine
That whole fight with scorponok was CAS lover's wet dream. A-10 and AC-130...I am half erect just thinking about it. I really hope T 5 doesn't suck China's dick like in Age of Extinction and goes back to making America cinematically great again.
Also fucking Snyder makes A-10s job to kryptonians. It was the greatest injustice since T-rex getting punked by Spinosaurus in JP3.

> Ignore all the Showa movies
Heisei films that aren't Biollante are objectively worse. They suffer from mediocre human characters, an overly serious nature, embarrassing lifts from popular American films at the time, and visual effects (that weren't even impressive for their time) that regularly dip below the standards of the early Showa films. And the continuity between those films don't add much.
Best Godzilla Films (in order of release)
> Gojira
> Mothra vs Godzilla
> Ghidrah
> Monster Zero
> Godzilla vs Hedorah
> Godzilla vs Biollante
> Godzilla 2000
> GMK
> Shin Godzilla
>Godzilla vs Hedorah
It's either this one or Megalon but everyone always includes one of the shitty ones.
Spot the /m/ faggot.
>an overly serious nature,
god forbid
>Implying prolonged physical contact with shin won't cause 2014 Godzilla to be absorbed into its biomass
>lit
GO BACK, NOW!
> Godzilla vs Hedorah
> Shitty
Not a chance
Megalon is genuine garbage with a few amusing parts that people seem to think makes it ironically good. It's cheap and thin even by the standards of the time.
Trying to do something doesn't mean you succeed. Gojira did.
