can you remember it so i dont have to?

god dammit

Pretty much just youtubepoop and smosh.

I was pretty autistic.

Attached: 1575615912240.jpg (500x367, 44K)

Pretty much just lots of Creepypasta bullshit, retro cartoons, and song lyric videos.

Long story but that's also the time before I ever experienced heartbreak. So eh, kinda nostalgic.

Cinema Snob > Nostalgia Critic

dude that hit home hard smosh is still around kinda right? i havent checked it in a few years

its too fucking corporate now. theyve fallen far off

all of them were shit in retrospect even spergy than the last

just checked. it looks like a buzzfeed channel knockoff its kinda sad tbh

Video:

- I loved me some AVGN before James stopped caring.

- ebaum's world. I KNOW goddamnit. Sue me! Still. Saw lots of weird shit there.

Porn:

- Melinda Doll. She STILL makes me cum just on thought. I don't know what it is about those Hungarian women but fucking hell they're doing something right in Budapest.

- Ashley Robins. There's someone else using that name now, but I'm referring to the cute, sporty redhead with giant knockers.

Web Comics:

- Too many to name and I've forgotten many of them. For me, they WERE the youtube of the early internet. I never had comics as a kid so I wasn't into super heroes at all. But there was Purple Pussy

- Octopus Pie (Which you absolutely should read),

-Sore Thumbs

- Sequential Art (Not as furry as it appears at first. Give it a chance)

- Bob and George (I went through a sprite art phase thanks to a popular website called Starmen.net dedicated to Earthbound which got me into making them. Bob and George is not good, it's just weirdly specific to my interests).

- Twisted Kaiju Theater: a web comic made using godzilla toys. The owner bitched out and deleted ALL his old GOOD stuff. What remains is embarrassing for us all.

- Dinoballs, which is entirely defunct and only a handfull of them still appear to exist. It's a goddamn shame, they were legitimately funny.

TBC

>before james stopped caring
what did he mean by this? ive heard of starman.net havent visted though web comics was the shitty twitter art of the 2000s

Other Stuff:

So, in the earlier days there were all of these experimental web applets using shockwave and flash. Many of them were just physics toys, but there was this one online art installation called No-Such.com, which was affiliated with Hell.com (Both of which now are either offline or owned by someone else entirely). You can think of it as abstract web art, Dada-esque...weird visual and sonic randomness that had a slightly eerie or trippy feel to it. Sometimes you had to find a hidden button to go to the next "room". Sometimes you had to solve a puzzle. Sometimes it just went randomly. There were TONS of pages in this site that you could get lost in for hours. It made me feel really uneasy many times and I contacted the site owner to ask WTF, and they just sort of parroted the sentiment back to me. I'd love to have met them though and maybe more than any other artifact of the old web, I sorely wish this still existed.

- Uncle Bob's Diary O' Chuckles. Bearing in mind this was when the whole blog phenomenon first started so it was new and weird. I don't think anyone going back today would find it nearly as charming in hindsight, but the type of voyerism it lent was totally novel at the time. It's still there if you want to check it out.

To be concluded!

- More than anything, just the spirit of the web. Today, everyone is trying to monetize every piece of content with ads or to sell their own stuff. They are reaching for tv-esque levels of production value and content scripting which just kills it for me. I wish the web were still weird stuff put on by non-normy weirdos like me, odd memes like All Your Base Are Belong to Us before "memes" were even really a codified concept, and oddball projects. The more passion project it felt, the better it was. But then everyone discovered the web. It went from being a thing for rejects to a thing for EVERYONE. And inviting EVERYONE to the party is always a bad idea. There's no turning back the clock, of course, but if you missed that era, you truly missed something special

James Rolfe, owner of Cinemassacre and performer of the AVGN used to do that as a passion project and not a revenue source. It was about games and short films he actually cared about and it was lightyears better when it was. He had a kid eventually, and she is...well, she's sick and needs a lot of attention. He's gotten older and he's covered all the stuff that was kind of native to his own times. Everything that has followed has been forced and devoid of passion. He lost important early members of CInemassacre's first attempt to expand, like Bootsy, who were actually worth watching, and then hired this agency to write produce and star in Cinemassacre content. Now, they write AVGN and James just show's up to perform the role, usually very poorly. Mike is a jackass who knows the ride is over and is running his wing of the company like 10 inch dick Hitler and it's turning off legions of former fans. It's a bad scene all around. It's over. And it's just real sad. Nothing like that will ever happen again online, not from that generation's point of view anyway.

i was super young at the time so i missed alot of stuff or at least the stuff people talk alot about its a shame there are animators who are weird as fuck just go to newgrounds its surprisingly active and has some quality stuff

james is like the early 2000s george lucas he started with small indie films found a audience with a passion project then milked and fired people that were vital until he just sold it off

CEASE AND DESIST!

Yeah, that's a pretty apt comparison.

at least for me where it started to go downhill was when an official avgn came out...and was pretty mediocre and just consisted of references and felt like slippier megaman

NO U!

But seriously, wuh?

For me it was the movie. It was a massive let down. Not because of the crappy production values. I LOVED that actually. It just had nothing to do with established AVGN stuff so all these weird one off characters showed up I cared nothing about. It was slipping before that, but it definitely never recovered after that point. Board James was the last great project and it's way worth watching if you haven't yet!

board james was great, i havent seen the movie but i remember reading this idea where the movie would be low budget and the avgn kidnaps the creator of the e.t. game and hi jinks ensue a problem people apparently had was how big the budget was due to kickstarter and shit (another thing killed the internet but who knows

even now somecallmejohnny isnt a bad reviewer in all honesty he's the only one who has gotten better with age along with jontron

I don't know what they're talking about. Maybe a lot of money was spent, but you won't be able to figure out where a single penny of it went in that thing. It's a mess.

they shot in actual nevada i think the proposed idea would be shot locally and cheaper from what i remember early kickstarters were a disaster besides shovel knight

Concerning Hell dot Com and No-Such dot com.

Tell me about it. I was a "Mighty Number 9" backer. Kill me.

are you proud of your life goals user, i remember around 2013 i got this gaming magazine which had mighty no 9 concept art and i was like "holy shit i want that" then the release just kind of happened

For anyone who wants to at least see what it looked like, use this link.
oldweb.today

There used to be a world without YouTube. You used to have to type in URLs, instead of getting convenient hyperlinks and autofill. Your choice of help came from a butler, a paperclip, or a purple monkey. No smartphones, no high-speed internet, no Netflix. Cassette, floppy disk, or CD. Solid turquoise background, Space Pinball 3000, being alone with your own thoughts. 5 minutes to load a .jpg, Usenet, trackball mice. Encyclopedias and cable television, satellite if you were lucky.

You'll never actually experience it until someone recreates some trendy early 2000s web simulator, but then you'll be able to do it in VR.

I don't believe my life to be important enough to merit anything as boisterous as pride. I live a while, then I disappear forever. I'm okay with that. I had a weird little ride from a unique perspective in the universe. How much more lucky can a collection of atoms really get? In that sense, I'm happy with my life. But pride? Eh...I leave that to the pyramid builders.

i get that especially recently ive been thinking about that especially with how relationships have gone like in a decade i wont remember any of this shit right

you forgot to mention having tabs in browsers, which is one of the biggest improvements. I specifically remember Firefox adding tabs, and it was a game changer. before that you'd end up with tons of separate windows open

Now I remember all of the times popups and viruses would fire up over a hundred windows at once, sometimes crashing the desktop. And now I remember why I repressed that memory.

oh man, the days before browsers had popup blockers

You made me feel like a boomer

OK BOOMER

Did I do it right?

>having to mess with config.sys and memmaker to make sure you have enough extended memory configured for your favorite DOS game

2 words. Tawnee Stone

It depends on how severe the fuck ups are. I'm nearing 40 and I still wish I'd been nicer to Rachel in high school. She was too good a friend and didn't deserve my bullshit.

But generally speaking, so long as it didn't straight fuck up your body, today's disasters are tomorrows blank spots in your mind. Today's triumphs will seem oddly trivial once you've taken the next series of successive steps. It's a ll a trick of perspective of course...but some people fall for that trick and get awful goddamn full of their own shit. You don't want to be that guy. I was that guy for a few years not too long ago. It was a bad look...

I was more a Jordan Capri guy myself, but yeah, Tawnee had a rockin little bod on her.

thanks man i get that life is a blink and you miss it moment im just in that state of purgatory i guess

Do something new then! The worst regret I have is wasted time. What anyone's specific definition of waste is, is subjective. But you said purgatory, not me. That sounds like waste to me. My aunt died three years ago. Just fell over with a brain tumor coming out of a casino after a night of fun. You don't know when that day will be, or if you'll get to say goodbyes or contemplate it all. Act now! Assess later.

hell yea user especially in the past few years ive been thinking more and more about it but due to a few things (family) i usually stall however early this year i saw the band sleep live and i was blown away so now i want life and shit

A few years ago I would say no but nowadays it's a hard yes.

consumption junction

another thing about that concert experience was that i had to drag my weird bald incel cousin along , motherfucker didnt want to come and bitched about it but still paid 40$ and just sat at the back of the venue all night

Live music has that effect for some reason!

Joe Cartoon. I'm oldfag.

Forgot the other site with the little pigs to AC-DCs TNT.

It feels so good to remember how bad it was. Being completely powerless as the screen alternates between flashes of white and porn, slowing down until the screen went blue, with every key your pound doing nothing but making the computer beep at you. I'm pretty sure it was my first introduction to ear rape. I'm also pretty sure I have BSOD PTSD.

The magic was there.

Wow, that jogged my memory.

Sometimes you just have to plant the seed in those guys and hope it grows. You won't necessarily be there to see it sprout. Life's long enough. Hopefully he'll feel better soon.

>lost

I remember really liking LiveLavaLive and WheezyWaiter. I spent way too much time on AlbinoBlackSheep too. I was on that way more as a kid than Newgrounds just because it wasn't blocked at school and I didn't have a PC at home

it wasnt because i was taking him to look after him he was apparently doing that for me since i was staying at his place, hes some late 30s incel who knows

Can't go wrong with Jordan Capri.

Remember when she went to prison? Pepperridge Farm remembers.

Bummer. Well, life's no story book. It doesn't work out for everyone. Especially those without the common sense to stand up and walk. Still, there's hopefully time! It's funny how cynicism and optimism are two sides of the same coin...

name? for scientific research.

Heh. No one's 19 forever.

totally man especially recently ive been thinking about how cynical i was/am sure cynicism from time to time is good but then theres that grumpy old fuck with a stick up his ass

My name is Seraph and I'm tired of it all. I'm tired of the bullying from stupid niggers and trannies that I know irl. I'll prove a point to them tonight by live streaming and video calling my suicide.

I'll be doing it in around a few hours in one of the VCs in the server below and I'll post the livestream link in the server below.

I mean, you COULD do that. Or you could go somewhere new? Have you ever been to Big Bear California? There's someone you should meet there...Don't an hero before you've passed through.

holy fuck that's sitting on my dads lap in the office type memories

I was just going to mention, having to wait many seconds, to several minutes sometimes for a SINGLE porn image to load over dialup. dark ages indeed. now I have a 300MB connection and get upset when entire pages don't load almost instantly
