Trying to into Deep Space Nine

But the whole show feels a bit dated/off.

>Nobody in the main cast worth rooting for.
>Guest characters/extras tend to be nobodies who can't even act.
>Lacks the gravitas of somebody like Patrick Stewart of Leonard Nimoy.
>no sense of wonder or exploration

I've watched season 1+2 so far, does it improve?

Should I ditch it and watch Enterprise instead?

Keep going. DS9 has that same problem all modern Trek has where the first 2 seasons are mostly shit.

Defo this the show peaks in the latter half of season 3 & 4

fuck off

>Nobody in the main cast worth rooting for
Odo, Obrien, Quark, Garak. That's all you need to remember.

Quark is a bit of a Jew, which makes little sense in a post-scarcity utopian society.

Odo and Garak... fair enough.

I can't root for Irish characters.

t. brit

another quality trek thread.

>Quark is a bit of a Jew, which makes little sense in a post-scarcity utopian society.

thats the point. the ferengi are a tongue in cheek jab at laissez-faire capitalism. Quark is there as a juxtaposition against the money free socialist society that the federation is.

like every Star Trek series it takes a while for it to get good. Season 3 is pretty much when I start to enjoy it. There is some good stuff in season 1 and 2 but it gets much better. don't give up

>I can't root for Irish characters.

Just wait, you'll be rooting for Quark over federation socialism soon enough. I don't think Space-Ireland is a thing but either way obrien episodes mostly deal with him suffering in some horrible way.

>no white men who aren't fat or ugly on the cast

the point of the series is to explore the other regions and societies in star trek that arent federation bound. the real stars are the klingons, cardassians and ferengi who all get real development and pov stories. the "exploration" aspect on star trek seems to be mostly bland guys in cheap robes with forehead wrinkles anyway. see: voyager

Unless you're a fucking faggot, what difference does it make how attractive they are?

If you want good looking men, go watch TNG or Voyager

>Nobody in the main cast worth rooting for.

Quark, faggot

No. Thats B5. Sorry. Your rip off boring show morphed later into a shitty Star Wars clone where even the writers realized no one wants to watch a space hotel sitcom.

well i likes it anyway. call me a faggot and kira best girl

Kira cucks Odo all through the series and then settles for him

>kira best girl
this t b h

shit Bajoran step aside

Originally they were going to have Ro on the show until the actress declined the role. They replaced her with Kira.

I dunno. I think DS9 got good really fast compared to other Treks. Season 1 had some excellent episodes.

DS9 eventually becomes excellent Only to completely drop the fucking ball in the final season. Also it tragically mishandles Gul Dukat, who had the potential to be one of the greatest Star Trek characters ever. Instead they turned him into a Saturday morning cartoon villain.

It gets better. Then it gets worse. Last season is absolute shit.

The problem isn't if you could root for the character or not. The problem is that the writers were horribly inconsistent with the characters' personalities or introduced character arcs that made zero sense.

Garak was great for a while and then he just stopped being annoyingly cryptic and started being an obnoxious shit instead.

Odo was the perfect character for great character development, but they made him shit instead.

Quark is okay except for that episode when (((they))) made him coerce his best employee for sexual favors and then later transformed him into a woman.

O'Brien is usually shit. He's better when he's with Bashir though. Also, anyone else wonder how he spent almost a decade on the Enterprise in front of a transporter control panel, but as soon as he transfers to DS9 he's a genius engineer/war hero/classically trained cello player/undercover operative/etc.?

Gul Dukat was great. Post-gul Dukat was absolute shit.

O'Brien was shown to be very smart in TNG. Sure, he had a lot of times where he was just a background character at the teleporter but he got some great development. Like when we find out he was in the Cardassian war and had to chase down his old captain, he was refered to as the genius on that ship. And he was the main engineer that Gordie went to if he needed stuff done.

>anyone else wonder how he spent almost a decade on the Enterprise in front of a transporter control panel, but as soon as he transfers to DS9 he's a genius engineer/war hero/classically trained cello player/undercover operative/etc.?
He always was. He says it a few times throughout DS9 that he found working on the Enterprise to be very boring because of his post, and the fact that the Enterprise ran so smoothly most of the time. He was overqualified for his job.

just when you think you can dig it, it's a stinky space hag episode

stopped right there
