Have you guys seen this movie? holy shit is it good...

have you guys seen this movie? holy shit is it good. without a doubt the best horror movie I've seen since event horizon. it seems like every """horror movie""" is a fucking exorcist remake. but this is my new favorite. if you haven't seen it yet I urge you to watch it, call me a shill I don't care.

sorry I saved the thumbnail

whats it about?

a cult

oh right
whats the cult do?

Event Horizon is pretty bad apart from its effects work so you aren't really selling me on this

i'm not spoiling it.

They're completely right

whats event horizon about?

well I thought it was pretty spooky

I watched it a few weeks ago and it was terrible, very bad acting and dialogue, badly plotted, a large number of the characters were superfluous except to deliver exposition.

People transforming into practical special-effects monsters, it takes inspiration from (more like rips-off iconic imagery) from The Thing, Hellraiser, From Beyond, Phantasm etc

That makes it sound far better than it is.

You're right. I saw a bunch of shitposting on here about how bad it was so I checked it out and as always, if Sup Forums says it's shit, it's actually good.

Solid 7/10 with bonus points for practical effects.

i liked it too.
first decent horror movie in years.

It's a completely bland, featureless horror fanboy movie better left consigned to the long list of crowdfunding mistakes.

Spaceship crew opens up a portal to hell, and it's a shitty, campy movie.

you're the same people who told me pic related was shit
fuck you

Except that movie was okay, not fantastic, but I didn't regret watching it.

it's a pretty straightforward psychological horror about a creepy abandoned spaceship. imagine lots of atmosphere, and lots of disconnected scenes of spooky things happening that aren't actually happening, and a total dearth of interesting characters, story or ideas. there are good scenes, but it's not really a good movie overall

it was fucking gold

>total dearth of interesting characters, story or ideas
>story or ideas

The characters are fine, some better than others (black comedy relief comes to mind) but really, the story or ideas? Space horror is a rarely utilized genre, far less so when it takes a hard left turn into supernatural horror. As cheesy as the movie gets, and it does get cheesy, it's a conceptually great little movie.

If you haven't seen the movie, and you haven't seen the trailer, and skipped spoilers up until reading this post, then see it as soon as possible. The only people with negative reviews are people who got overlyhyped due to the trailer and thought the movie was something else. Still, the movie is great and it has some memorable scenes and effects.

As my Italian grandmother used to say "The Void is kino magnifique"

Its set in the Warhammer 40k universe, when humanity is trying out Warp travel without the Gellar field.

Just watched it, all in all I'd say it's a decent movie. Big bonus for the use of practical effects, however the acting wasn't all that good.
Also the song played in the credits is catchy as fuck

Overall, I enjoyed it. It wasn't great, but it's worth a watch if you like horror.

The positives: Great practical effects, interesting "Lovecraftian" premise, the cult members with the robes were unsettling.

Negatives: The acting and the characters fell flat for me. It felt like a bad 80s Steven King movie (that could be a positive, depending on your viewpoint).

The the payoff at the end was anti-climatic for me. I enjoyed The Mist more.

Great movie
Pros
Good vibe
Great practical effects
Good story
Not an exorcist or conjuring ripoff

Negative
Acting
Pacing
3rd act

They could have tightened up the end. Character motivations were good, except for the 2 country dudes.

>Big bonus for the use of practical effects

I genuinely have to ask, because I have never understood, why do you think this? What inherit merit is there to practical effects? What exactly is the merit to regressing in a medium? Is it a nostalgia thing? Is it a 'fuck da modern times' thing? Has familiarity with CG bred contempt for it? I mean, the effects were stiff and obvious, hidden by flashing light and shadow and camera angles. Is it supposed to be charming?

it sucks.

Please no one fall for this. This movie is literal garbage. It's b movie crap with terrible acting, photography and writing. It's just one of those million of shitty horror movies you'd see on Netflix.

personally I think its more immersive and makes it look more real. I hate the look of cgi, in my perfect world it shouldn't exist

Too much random gore and horror elements haphazardly thrown in.

I thought it would be more reserved and they would gradually build up the tension/dread.

i agree with this.
not enough buildup

Because it looks better.

>the effects were stiff and obvious
They way I see it, the monsters or whatever it was were supposed to move in a jerky unnatural way, kinda like the nurses in Silent Hill.

>Too much random gore
I'm sold. Thanks.

I watched it last night. Shit acting all around. Stupid characters. Some cool practical effects but they can't save this pile of crap.

Saw it a couple of days ago, it was pretty bad. First third was promising but in the end it turned out to be just another low-budget B-movie. The posters are cooler than anything in the actual film.

I enjoyed the poster more than the movie.

going to see it tonight actually

>it seems like every """horror movie""" is a fucking exorcist remake.
no one talks about this

> It's just one of those million of shitty horror movies you'd see on Netflix.

Yup, this. See all those retarded horror flicks with one or two starts on Netflix? That's exactly what this movie is.

Watch LOTR and tell me the parts of it that are CGI have aged better than the parts of it that are practical effects.

I thought the monster special effects looked cheap and shitty. And the doctor in his evil form was like a really poor made for tv version of the evil doctor from Hellraiser II.

Felt like your usual Hellraiser movie even they ripps Doc. Channard from Hellraiser 2

as a Tentacle porn movie it was ok but as a Lovecraftian Nightmare didnt work not a single use of subtley resourse and the characters can sustain massive damage with their psyches intact.

>Bad writing
>Bad acting
>Score kind of sucked
>End CGI

But
>Nice practical effects
>Hellraiser/Thing vibe
>Good atmosphere
>Some sicknasty shots
>The plot itself wasn't bad despite the writing
>QTs
>End CGI might have taken me out a little, but the budget was super small and it's kind of understandable

I've actually watched this with two different groups of friends now and they all loved it. 7/10 for me.

basically this but

>really fucking bad writing
>really fucking bad acting

6/10, the effects/cg put it in the "watch one time and forget about it" tier

10/10 b movie with great effects. watch it asap

Holy shit that actually makes sense

Well put user

I see the shilling for this still is going strong.
And it's a schizophrenic, poorly made kind of shilling. The posts are ridiculously off.

People who made the movie are desperate

>someone likes x on a x related board
>this makes them a shill

plebs feeling patricians

I thought it was pretty meh desu.
It Follows was a much better Carpenter throwback.

watched it last night. it was ok, I wouldn't say great.

it's a pretty shit movie unless you're a fan of gore porn or macabre shit

cool general concept, though. i'd love if they actually explored the void

>It follows

Why do people keep shilling this movie, it was awful.

Sure thing. Wonder when you will stop shilling your shit film
