Not sure, but I did see some stats and since before 2016, the GOP base has been skewing quickly and many more now are
* lower income
* lower in education
* rural or semi rural
* have non-professional or service level jobs
and the Dems are getting a larger share of the more urban, affluent, educated voters.
Makes sense, since these folks have largely been left behind. Small towns, crumbling industrial base, diminishing opportunities, etc. Makes them afraid enough to follow Trump wherever he leads.
There's an article I read about two types of folks: "Somwheres" and "Anywheres". "Somewhere" people have many ties to one specific place and their employment, family, and professional network are all embedded in that. "Anywheres" are the more virtual people. They can work remotely, they are online more often and so their network and their whole life is more portable. I think this is what we're seeing in the US.
If we want to get more unity, the Anywheres have to realize that they're leaving the Somewheres behind and somehow correct that imbalance.

Income and education does correlate with IQ, my friend, so I'd imagine that since 2016 it has been going up. But, people are sensitive to that type of news and IQ has it's own problems, so that's why these studies look at the end-result statistics instead, like education and income.
