It is reserved for savages. Justice should only come after a jury of your peers decides beyond a reasonable doubt that you are guilty. The methods for that justice should come from the people.
Even though it may act as an excellent deterrent, I wonder how many people were brutalized or burned alive for a crime they didn't commit.
