Which do you prefer and why?

...

Hastaneye gittim.

The second one, for the same reason that phrases like "I went to restaurant", "I went to store", and "I went to movie theatre" sound stupid.

American English is the only legitimate English.

what about "I went to school" ?

that said I've never heard anyone say went to hospital

I've gone to the krankenhaus.

British, i hate "the"

Runglish variant. Shorter, better, simpler.
"I'm went hospital"

In general, I agree with this poster but in this case I prefer the second one because the less you use articles the better.

Only autistic british people care about the differences in english, most british youth thesedays use american english(apart from the accents and some spellings)

eh?
people use both and it depends on the context you fucknugget

Second one, because only turks dont use definite articles.

Wait do people actually use the first sentence?

It sounds so wrong

this tbqh

>articleless """languages"""

it would never be said as a singular sentence, it would be used as a clause of a larger sentence

I went to school, I went to hospital, I went to uni, I went to work. Only really works with these things. Specifying The or A is unnecessary with these things. There's usually only one of them applicable to you, and you wouldn't ordinarily need to specify which, or imply that it's the only one around, or one of many by saying The or A

I went to hospital simply implies the person in question went to A medical facility. Putting THE in there means i should know exactly wich fucking one of the myriad of hospitals he went to, retarded.

There's no reason to use the article in this case.

los articulos son innecesarios

what about the police/fire departments, courthouses, and utility companies?

im pretty sure that the difference is between going to stay as a patient, and going for other reasons like to work there or to pick up a prescription or visit someone

when was the last time you went to any of those

i think 'a'and'the' is useless.

just wondering if public services all omit the article

nah dont think so there's no logic to it as far as i can tell

this lad () might be right desu you'd say "i'm in hospital" if you were the patient but "i'm at the hospital" if visiting

The second one is the American one. Are you dyslexic or something?

It seems normal from English logic, because there is not ONE hospital but you can go to any.

isnt there a difference
like i went to the hospital implies i got my leg broken and went to closest or smt
while went to hospital is more about ive been so sick i needed help there

i use both

"the" implies a specific hospital
"I went to hospital" implies no hospital in particular, ie: any hospital
also if you were to say a specific hospital, you'd probably actually mention the specific hospital's name, sometimes that might include the, sometimes it might not

For Americans, "the" can also imply any hospital or hospitals in general without citing a specific hospital. Like "the park" or "the post office."

but for hospitals that seems incorrect
'the hospital' implies a singular entity
'a hospital' would imply any hospital in general

Because you're thinking of it in a similar context to "school" or "work."
>I went to school. I went to hospital.

Americans see hospitals in a context closer to "park" or "post office."
>I went to the post office. I went to the hospital.

Second one. The first one without the "the" article sounds like caveman speak

Aren't they both used?
>I went to hospital.
When being generic and nonspecific.
>I went to the hospital.
When referring to a particular hospital that you and the listener know of, or at least assume of based on context.

ah so americans are retarded then
gotcha

>his language needs articles for the sentence to make sense
lol

god im so much smarter than all of you

I am smart as well.

not as smart as me sorry

House be red! German rape mom!
Bloody barbaric

Canadians will say either "in hospital" or "in the hospital", but I've never heard anybody say "to hospital"

>thinking this is how it works
nice knowing you're retarded
