republicans

they dont support space travel because god or some shit

At least we have Candy Crush

a better question: why do niggers and jews still exist?

the van allen belts

>trump diverted all Abortion and NPR funding to NASA
JFK hated you communists, BTW

liberals

they would rather give all of our money to worthless niggers than advancing humankind

spending trillions of dollars so we can orbit the Earth drinking coffee and making phonecalls seems a bit fucking pointless.

because there is an Alien base on the far side of the Moon and NASA were ordered to never return again, this is why the interest in a Moon base died entirely.

because we need to fix "our" problems first

meaning stopping niggers and sandniggers from killing each other and dragging down western society.

First signs of success are to be expected any day now.

>hated

more like afraid. what's a more dangerous thought than a man willing to work for free to support his community?

The same reason we don't have flying cars and robot maids, but we do have internet and smartphones.

they dropped funding way down from the moon landing era and the shuttles were over hyped trash.

>nasa space program became a meme with >muh shuttles
>USSR died so no competition so no need to innovate
>deregulation of financial sector makes it wildly profitable
>brain drain from tech because people want to make millions
>no one wants to fund big science because everyone is broke as fuck except for the richest of the rich who are just now starting space development

Because the hippies made us lose Vietnam.

is that a mcdonald's drive thru?

Vietnam.

Space isn't for people to go into in the same way that land isn't made for fish to swim on.

I mean, just think about it this way. There are active rovers on mars right now. These are remotely controlled and fairly stupid. In a few decades, we'll be sending very advanced AI rovers to mars. At that point we can legitimately say that Mars is inhabited by robots.

And we'll just develop more and more advanced robots that we'll send into space. It is only natural that these robots will be capable of organizing into larger groups in which they cooperate to for example make use of local resources. At that point, we can say that mars is actually being colonized by robots.

And eventually these robots will be capable of sustaining themselves. At that point, there will be a civilization of robots on mars.

I mean the only real flaw in 2001 is that it failed to see the complete irrelevancy of humanity in the future of space exploration.

When 2001 actually rolled around, in the early part of the year before 9/11 dominated the news, there was a little fad among tech/science people to compare present-day science fact with Clarke's science fiction. Wired devoted an entire issue to the topic. I am currently re-reading Clarke's novel version and it's remarkable how near to the mark he got, on a great many things (although perhaps some were a bit late, of course):

-earth's population estimated at 6 bn
-sketches a primary space station, just a few hundred miles up (ISS literally hit this mark, though it's not nearly as cushy)
-an incidental space probe is described as hurtling past Pluto
-videophones, predicted by many media (now effectively realized via skype, chat rooms et al)

there's more but I just want to continue reading now.

Which movies takes place in the same universe as 2001: A Space Odyssey?

I know that A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut take place in the same universe.

listen and rage

Pretty much this. From world leaders in science you're now awash in the grip of rabid anti-intellectualism led by your now-religulous right wing. A few more generations of this and you'll be the Amish of the world stage.

>Which movies takes place in the same universe as 2001: A Space Odyssey?

2010

see Space travel diverts funding that is much needed for dem programs n sheeit

The Soviet Union collapsed so the USA had no reason to spend more money in their space program which existed only for propaganda. By the time other countries started to catching up, like India and China, 2001 did already come and go

>during the Obama presidency, the last US manned spacecraft was scrapped and NASA was retooled to monitor carbon emissions and "reach out to the Muslim world"
>next year the US will have three different manned spacecraft: the Orion, the Dragon 2 and the CST-100, and Dragon creator Elon Musk is part of Trump's advisory team
Care to explain?

elon musk is a smart businessman and american taxpayers are easy to exploit
just look at the military complex industry

Yeah, no-one is "reaching out to the Muslim world", and Obama had to recover the economy from Dubya's retarded choices.

>conservatives are ruining space exploration
???

...

[citation fucking needed]

Trump is hype about space and I've heard nothing but libshits whining that he's wasting money that could be used to feed Africans

lmao might wanna do just the tinest bit of research mate

NASA was completely gutted under Obama, because him and his corporate cronies had no idea how to make a profit off of it

But selling normie sheep on "climate change" and getting them to spend spend spend on something they can't actually change, and on products that require a constant supply of oil was moved to priority number one.

right wingers truly are the easiest retards to bait

nice job

>t-the conservatives are anti-intellectal!
>we just need to shut down all funding of NASA and other future sciences so we can provide women and minorities with free benefits

>instead of funding space travel, we can pay for millions and millions of illegal immigrants healthcare, education and food

>why are we worried about space travel when this poor syrian child had something bad happen to it!

Face it, liberalism is even more anti-science than conservatism, unless the science is some way to keep brown people pumping out kids.

That's a different type of "reaching out" than you were suggesting, user.

But well played anyway.

Where did the nigger buy his first gun?
Also why does he looks angry when he shoots a Crip member? And how did the Crips members know that Tyrone killed one of theirs?

Nice comic story though.

Cause JFK died.

Because there isn't a monolith we need to reach

So he directs the actual funding to NASA to his pockets
