So what is communism? Communism doesn't just mean sharing a whole bunch of shit. Communism as we need to remember first off is something very tangible and real. It means that the people who use the means of production to produce the wealth society rests on seizes the means of production uses them democratically, not to mention use them more efficiently.
So how do we acheive communism? Post-scarcity, everyone provided for by replicators, therefore there is no need for the capitalist mode of production? Perhaps, but we do not have the ability to do that today. Or do we? After all, the US alone produces enough food to feed the world. But can we distribute it?

Under actual communism you don't work for free, the means of production being publically owned means that a laborer is entitled to what they create, as opposed to capitalism where the boss reaps the majority of the profit from the products the people create. Under communism people's labor would be more valuable because the rewards from labor are not soaked up by a few bosses that own the company. The thing about communism is that it is an ideology, and can never be fully realized. It's an ideal to look forward to when deciding what to do. When socialism is attempted there are always unforseen problems that come into play when people start trying to take for themselves, but we can also see problems in capitalism where the bourgeois greed will cause them to keep squeezing the working class to try and reap as much as they can to the point where the people have generally bad conditions and the wealthy have seemingly infinate power. There is no perfect system, humans being humans will fuck anything up, it's just that socialism is a more noble goal than capitalism, we should aim for it.
Communism oppresses the poor and keeps the elites benefiting off the oppressed poor.
Just like capitalism.

Consider the following hypothesis. Soon or later machines will replace people in a lot of sectors of employment. They don't need to be perfect, they just need to be sufficient to match people (in many cases they already do). This means a lot of people will lose their jobs and something will have to happen in order for them to take care of themselfs or a civil war will errupt in a sufficiently advanced society. You cannnot undermine the argument that this will happen because it all businesses seek to reduce costs and optimize profit margins and the marginal rate of technical substitution is improving more and more with the advanced in AI, robotics and general embedded tech. The question is how to deal with society in such a state. I see the solution coming from a state which distributes the resources produced by robots while human work on things requiring higher cognitive abilities or enjoying leasure. The thing that disturbs me in such a society is the gradual decay .. continuing in post 2
