I have friends that I love dearly and there been a massive part of my life for the last 11 years.
We get along perfectly but the major problem is that they're huge leftists. I've never let this get in the way of friendship with them and they've never let me beliefs stop themselves from loving me too.
But here's the problem. Whenever politics do come round in conversation all they do is regurgitate shit from John Oliver, Stephen Colbert and quips they here on @Midnight.
Whenever I try to back up what I'm saying with facts with legit sources (they think NowThis is a source, btw) they shut me down saying shit like
"TRUMP WENT BANKRUPT" and "HES A RACIST ASSHOLE"
I do my best to stay calm and try to dispel these things with finesse as I know how heated they get but most of the time they just tell me to stop talking and refuse to hear anything I have to say about it.
It's not that I can't win, it's that they won't allow me to.
Ita similar to being about to win a game of chess, having one move left and then the other person just walks away from the table.

I've always been surrounded by liberals where I live, so I too can confirm this. It also doesn't help that in liberal areas you'll nearly always be outnumbered. It's hard to win any arguments when 5 people are all calling you a racist without letting you explain anything.

Think about what you want to achieve with them. For example I wanted my left leaning family to stop trying to protect Islam every time an attack happened. So I showed them some videos, looked at some Facebook reactions of Muslims near us and pointed out that our Muslim neighbours are sexist. Now every time an argument starts I just remind of what I showed them and then they usually shut up.
