Backing Cannons at home where they haven't had a loss against a non A League side since 2016. Bentleigh have had a massive turnover in players and are still settling in, despite starting the season off with a win (if you don't count the thumping from Heidelberg in the Community Shield) against newly promoted side Dandenong. However, all their goals came after Dandy had their keeper sent off and Bentleigh were trailing behind before the sending off.
Bentleigh coach: "I don't know what's happened this year, but we seem to be making mistakes and getting punished for it. We've got to really make sure we eliminate as many mistakes as possible. There are a lot of players there that have come to the club. We've got seven new players. So they're learning the Bentleigh way and it's not easy...Oakleigh are one of the favourites this year. There's no doubt... it's going to be a very tough game for us. We've got to be at our best and... get a positive result."
Cannons have lost their last two games after going ahead at half time, sitting back and holding onto a small lead has cost them before and I'm sure they won't make the same mistakes against Bentleigh. Cannons are ready for this season with 9 preseason games under their belt and minimal changes compared to other teams in the league. Also beat Heidelberg (who smashed Bentleigh) and SM in the preseason and have only had hiccups against smaller teams whom they perhaps didn't take as seriously. All in all, I expect Cannons to get their first win of the season at home here.
Oakleigh Cannons were 5 points away from 2nd in the table last season in the NPLV and 2nd best defence in the top 6 and aren’t lacking for firepower either. Made a big signing in the form of Dekker who scored 13 goals last year for Green Gully and has A League experience, fundamental for Gully’s top 5 NPL finish. Have Dusan Bosnjak 17 goals in 26 games, Piemonte 8 in 28 and Marafioti 8 in 28. Top two team on paper

Gully have only got one or two real threats up front after losing their topscorer to Oakleigh whilst Port Melbourne made the signing of the season in Sam Smith who got over 20 goals last season. PM also had a good game against Heidelberg, favourites for the league, going a goal down from a corner but had a number of chances of their own. Gully's preseason hasn't been very promising and only played 1 or two friendlies against NPL sides.

Football seems an odd choice to model imo, so many variables and low scoring makes it much more unpredictable than individual sports, like with snooker I don't have to care about lineups or injuries etc. I guess its just as unpredictable for the bookies though.
