Did Millennials ruin film?
Did Millennials ruin film?
No, boomers did. And the Gen X-ers are responsible for the quipping epidemic.
Gen X did actually.
>le wrong generation
Why are americans so fucking obsessed with slamming themselves into categories? Races, sexes, generations, liberal, conservative etc
I bet you can find more individualistic spirit in chinks
>be Sup Forums
>spam every thread that has nothing to do with your hatred of Americans
We get it. You're jealous of us. Now go back.
I'm Australian so get fucked dumb shit.
OP here, I'm actually French
Technically yes since they are the target audience of this shit. Hollywood panders to the hip audience, and the millennial mindset is the hippest.
oh I get it because cursing hahaha
Wraps everything up in a nice neat little bow.
But really, the only reason why it happens is so people can sell shit to people who have a similar experience. It's why you're never going to get a straight answer on what a millennial is.
Whoever the fuck pushed the endless quipping and the demand for movies that "don't take themselves too seriously" certainly ruined action films, that's for sure. This is why they are all forgettable as fuck now. I'm not a dick sucker for the new Mad Max or Dredd 3D, but there is a reason why those movies felt so fresh when they came out. Since they took themselves seriously, they were actally engaging films.
I feel like the current trend of adding humor every other scene to remove all tension is crutch for writers these days.
I'd add John Wick too but ya I agree.
They keep things light so that families will take their kids to see them.
>t. Someone who has never been to Sup Forums

Americans get very little hazing for their population on the board. Stop being a lil BITCH
This.
Fuck all this pigeonhole shit. For instance on iTunes or whatever we get

america is and has been a balkanized clusterfuck for over a hundred years, ever since it was the english vs the irish, to the wops and the niggers, now the spics.
everybody hates each other and nobody wants to blend, and why would they?
>muh euros are jelly
I wish I was fat and only allowed two weeks vacation per year. AND no Kinder Surprise Eggs.
>implying millennials are watching capeshit and not Gen Z
They would take them to see capeshit regardless. Plus, it's not like they keep these thing totally clean anyway. I don't think a serious tone would necessarily scare parents away. Then again, what do I know?
Careful now. You're getting so mad that you may just shoot yourself. Oh, wait . . .
Yeah, John Wick is another great example. Cant believe I forgot.
Collectivism is slowly killing western civilization. That's the sad truth.
I always forget which is which?
I was recently in the same room as an episode of NCIS:LA was playing. The entire show was continuous quip. Go ahead and watch one episode, it was really over the top
I'm a long way from mad, my porky friend. Compelling counter-argument though. Well done.
Do you really believe this or are you admitting the majority of Sup Forums is underage?
How do you come on here, see threads about celebrities declaring gender an infinite spectrum and that we're all unique, and call it collectivism?
Individualism is what's wrong with the west. There's no community anymore. Everyone's alone and alienated, that's why we spend so much fucking time on Sup Forums instead of having a beer with our neighbors.
It's not just a crutch for writers, but it's beneficial for the shitty celebrity casts they usually have too. They can be a lot more casual with their performance.
The older members of Gen Z are around 21. Most millennials are going into their thirties.
The problem is that they hire big stars with huge insurance policies covering them to make action scenes. So they can't make them themselves and it gets to a point to can't use extras, because those fights need close ups, so they have to cover them with CG effects or edit tricks (the infamous 2 cuts per second MCU bullshit). And when the action in your action movie looks like fucking shit, you need to make it up with something, and that something is comedic relief. Both movies you mentioned had great action scenes, it's not a coincidence
>DUDE KIDS THESE DAYS LMAO
Why can't Americans at least align the boxes when they try to make a fake webpage in MS paint? Are they all useless fat sharter cunts?
it's weird how people perceive time, isn't it?
generational grouping like this is kinda useful for some stuff I guess, but any statement that goes "generation-[whatever] ruined [thing]" can be safely ignored, because anyone who says that is beyond stupid.
It's not surprising. If you go down the 'rugged individual' rabbit hole it inevitably leads to 'why do I need a cell phone? Why do I need cable? Why do I need the internet? Why do I need a job?' And you end up buying a chunk of land in the middle of nowhere, building a log cabin and spending your life growing potatoes and fishing.
They don't want us to figure that out. They want to get paid.
Why did they stop calling us gen y and start calling us millennials?
i swear to god you faggots are worse than the people you're """parodying"""
Millennials are meant to have reached adulthood by the year 2000. Gen Y is the same thing by a different name.
>generational grouping like this is kinda useful for some stuff I guess
It helps emphasize some interesting sociological trends, pic related.
>any statement that goes "generation-[whatever] ruined [thing]" can be safely ignored
The odd part to me, is why the blame always falls onto the generation who has/causes a problem, and not to the ones that raised them. If most 16 year olds are experimenting with drugs, then that reflects just as badly on their parents, if not more so.
Whereas in america all you have to do is go to "school".

Preceding millennials is Gen-X and succeeding millennials is Gen -Z

Pop culture ruined everything, if they can't put it on a t-shirt to sell then it won't get known to the large general public, unfortunately.
Also I remember when Iron Man was a literal WHO? to the public, very funny and ironic he's now everyone's favourite superhero because of the MCU cancer.
>Pop culture ruined everything
I don't think you realize how retarded what you just said actually is.
That doesn't really work since men have been getting 'softer' and 'softer' since the end of the last glacial maximum due to advances in technology, advances that generally take place during periods of peace and stability, generally by men who wouldn't be considered particularly formidable survivors or warriors.
Jonas Salk for instance, has had a huge impact on us enjoying 'good times' currently, but I doubt his ability to wrestle bears into submission or skin elk with his teeth.
You have to admit it did though and Star Wars was the downfall of everything.
It affected the cinema experience as well. Now everyone expects a quip in every film that people laugh at the most inappropiate moments ruining a film.
Is the good time strongman a Nazi?
So you're a chink then
Boomers gave birth to gen X who gave birth to millenials
Because although they can't admit it to themselves they realise they are just products in Mr Shekelstein's Amerimart and they are desperate to get good shelf placing as commerce is the only thing that matters to them. See all over Sup Forums how people genuinely fight over which product they are loyal to as if Disney or Time-Warner will be pleased with them.
No, but autists did. They always bitch and moan about quipping because capeshit for children should always be super serious and dour.
This too. I hate the way everything now has to be hyped up and a spectacle for them rather than entertainment it is supposed to be.
Quips are just the modern iteration of having muscle-men with single-digit IQs spout stupid one-liners in 80s blockbusters.
>Did millennials ruin movies made by non-millenial directors?
Yes
See like here, the only way this peon can endure his miserable life is because he has been told that every other place in the world is in worse servitude than he is despite the fact that he labours under the most complete form of slavery ever devised and North Koreans unironically have more right to self determination than him. This system of oppression is either only partly implemented in other countries or it isn't present at all, the people having perhaps less material options such as which poisoned breakfast cereal to buy or what poisonous beverage to drink but are otherwise free emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually in a way that an amerislave not only couldn't never experience, but couldn't even comprehend.
The savior of cinema.

Only they didn't.
Millennials are the all-must-win-prizes children of soppy "disco boomers".
GenX is in between, their children are the far more based and serious GenZ.
Millenials may be the first generation routinely working for people younger than them who have more drive, resilience and common sense.
...
The truth is overflowing out of my monitor.
put me in the screenshot bro
Millennials have produced nothing.
As most employers agree, they lack drive, resilience and common sense which had been traded for special-snowflake traits and entitlement.
All millennial art is a copy of something prior generations created in their youth, they have created nothing worth mentioning themselves.
Its incredibly depressing, they don't even have their own fashion (clothes seem the same as they did 20 years ago, contrast the 50s/60s/70s/80s/90s, you'd have looked like a weirdo/got beaten up going between epochs in the same threads) let alone artistic movements.
Music has been the same for 20 years (look how long Beyonce has been around, look how many times David Bowie or Madonna had to reinvent themselves to get through a decade).
God help us when Generation X film-makers have to pass on the baton, there isn't anything or anyone waiting.
Maybe, as many employers are increasingly concluding, the sensible thing is to skip a generation. Keep Generation X working longer until their children, Generation Z, come on-stream.

I dont why americans think everywhere is JUST LIKE THEM. there are kids out there doing genuine shit. that malala bitch got shot in the fucking face because she stood up against what she thought was unfair.
It's just american millenials who are fucking fat and lazy and entitled trash.
america is actually wasted on americans
Have you ever seen movies like Big Trouble In Little China? Great action movie, doesn't take itself seriously at all. Kurt Russell's character is basically a parody. Fury Road and Dredd were great too I just don't think its the humor that is making these films so bad.
Then again I liked (not loved) Guardians of the Galaxy un-ironically so that might invalidate my opinion on this board.
Americans and everyone else think virtue signalling a terrorist incident or celebrity death is actually helping when it really isn't. Look at their behaviour when the Paris or London attacks happened. They turn everything into "ME, ME ME! ME!" rather than trying to make their places safer.
It's actually rampant individualism and the "everybody is special/everybody is equal" bullshit killing society.

Sadly these American attitudes have infected us all.
I remember when the IRA used to bomb us on a regular basis, the stiff upper lip reigned supreme and I don't remember any of this hysteria or virtue signalling. We didn't say that we wouldn't let it affect us, we acted like it hadn't happened.
We were literally pulling the PM (Maggie) out of the rubble and they stopped covering it after a bit to show Grandstand.
I doubt this anything anyone even particularly associates with Maggie in popular memory. She actually changed her clothes before leaving the bombed hotel because she didn't want the British people to see her looking a mess.
