he has a stranglehold over his district whether you like it or not. the chances of him losing his seat are slim to none. the only way he will leave washington is if they demoralize him to the point of him quitting.

honestly i think this all blows over. the entire trump campaign knew well in advance what cruz was going to say. cruz himself told trump a few days prior to the convention that he would not endorse. all of this can be verified by looking it up yourself.

he's already 'not liked' by his peers. he'll just go back to doing what he does, blasting lefty scum in committee hearings / testimony

Trump spent the campaign calling him a liar.

Last night he just stood on stage and proved that fact beyond all doubt by not supporting Trump.

When Trump loses Cruz will be in a much better position.

when Trump gets stomped out in November he'll win the nomination in 2020.

Maybe, at least until the first debate when everyone pledges to support the nominee and everyone else on the stage laughs at him.

If the election is close than mutinous politicians like Cruz and Kasich will be the ones to take the heat.

True, I supported Cruz in the primary, but always did so from what I believe was an objective basis.

Cruz is a Senator from Texas. His term ends in 2019.

For the next two and a half years he will be blackballed in Washington and in Texas. He will be ineffective, marginalized, a black sheep no GOPer wants anything to do with.

In 2019, if he runs for reelection, he will lose and lose bad.

Unless you're a legend like Trump, then you make your own rules. But very few are masters of the universe like Trump.

Cruz is already in the shit house in the Senate ever since he bucked leadership and pushed for the shutdown, has been for several years; embargoed on RNC money, so forth. He influence comes from working with the house freedom caucus. The man had more to do with pitching Boehner overboard than anyone else in the Senate.

As the other user says, depends on what the margins are. He could look like a genius and actually rehabilitate himself in the Senate with a follow up political win. It's seldom about what Republicans want. They didn't want Trump. They didn't want Romney in particular. They didn't want McCain very much either. It mostly breaks down in who else fails to rise in opposition, or to lead. And a lot of folks played it far too cowardly or evasively or piquishly for them to have the golden path laid out before them. In that sort of environment, Cruz could hope to rebuild his case.

We all that he's just going to go back to his Zodiac Killer persona, who knows? He might even kill Shillary for us.
