Honestly Allende and Pinochet were both a detriment to the country, but the country was in shitty management since the times of the early parliament in the early 1900's.

But anyway, Pinochet was a military general who took over the nation by force when Allende was in charge cause Allende was basically fucking the economy like any good socialist who's handed power. There's several documentaries about the whole thing, but good luck finding one that's impartial, sure historians are usually biased but these documentaries...they're something else. You can tell someone on either side was pretty butthurt about the opposition when you watch the documentaries. Most of them obscure the larger picture in lieu of telling a narrative that suits their political interests picking and choosing facts to ommit.

The shitty part about all of this is that the country is still split to this day, you still find people who can't get over either Pinochet or Allende, I had teachers in school who still looked at Pinochet like the savior of the nation and teachers who thought he was basically satan, same for Allende.
