I don't think you understand there isn't a 'tpyical' low cost housing in Britain. Public housing varies area to area and era to era. In the north Terrace housing is working class as fuck, in the south its mostly owned by rich upper middle class people. Standards of living varies hugely area to area.
I grew up in North West London, when I was in high school a huge tower block estate that was full of refugees from the Somalian war a few years previous was deemed unfit for purpose. Most of that tower block got moved into a brand new high quality housing estate that was built on the back of a beautiful country park, with easy access to all public transport hubs etc etc The estate had been designed with middle class commuters in mind but bought to help poor people. My house was a semi detached council house that we paid a pretty small amount of rent on (comparable to London rent prices of course). It was pretty run down etc when we got it but because it was a council owned property they maintained it well, added extensions, a bathroom etc, now its probably worth upwards of 3/4 of a million.
Point being you can't simply look at an exterior of a house and decide what class probably lives there...especially if you're sitting in Australia

nah Hartley has always been rich, I remember seeing an ex Hartley sprint car on trademe in like 2006 that's like $150k plus in addition to doing TRS etc. Ocon is kinda a special case, for sure there's a real story there but nobody will give a fuck until he wins a race or gets signed to a top team. I see what you're getting at. I always felt poor. I went to a private school and I did karting and the people around me were always way fucking richer than me, I always enveyed them but tbf most of them are now in pretty much the same position as me so it doesn't really matter. At the end of the day if your parents can afford to get you into karting, you ain't poor. It's just a matter of starting early enough, and lastly of course, talent. Then, sponsorship, all the rest of that bullshit, looks play a part too. But honestly, I did karting and almost all of the people I know who were actually any good at least got a shot in cars etc. 99% don't make it but it's the nature of the sport.
