i need help figuring out this movie that i'm thinking of. i have no extensive knowledge about it besides it's either from the 70s or 80s (or older), very artsy, colorful, maybe even criterian collection? it has a set story but still weird.

a guy is the main character. i've never seen the movie and i'm remembering the weird trailer for it like it was a dream. probably very underground? possibly supposed to be futuristic but it's an older movie at most from the early 80s
