Pretentious shit

it was surpassed, 50 years before its release

>DontWatch Griffith
No thanks, I'm not a frothing ape that needs to be force fed

We're already at Persona 5. Sup Forums needs to get with the times.

got em!

I like 3 women better. Similar vibes, but sissy spacek and shelley duvall. Bob Altman is the GOAT American director too.

xD hehe I got your Sup Forumseddit reference!

>the criterion collection
>black & white
>ingmar bergman

you can't be more pretentious than this

Was actually coming into this thread to say this. I much prefer 3 Women over Persona, but the former probably wouldn't exist without the latter influence.

It's a great film but Trollfjoten is better.
Don't ever mock Bergman. He was a great man and member of the Hitler Youth.

All three of those are entry level. Stick to comic books.

Yeah, Altman said himself that he wouldn't have the balls for long closeups if it weren't for Bergman. Nashville is an even better Altman.

Will my immeasurable boner ever be surpassed?

>triggered

eurotrash bullshit

For a film with such strong visuals, Bergman relies on dialogue to carry a lot of scenes. It's especially unfortunate if you aren't a native Swedish speaker

it was too deep for me

can someone give me a quick rundown on what it all meant?

Fight Club was the better version of this.

I heard that the series doesn't get good until 3.

I know this post is bait, but I've honestly never understand the metatextual elements of Persona.
The literal narrative of the two women is easy to follow, but why does the film constantly call attention to the fact that it IS a film? The final scene even shows Bergman himself behind his camera filming the ending. It seems he was trying to make a larger statement about film in general, but what exactly he was trying to say is beyond me.

pretentious eurotrash

idk but the dancing skeleton tickled my sides

Get over yourself. The movie isn't even that good. And if you rank greatness on muh "erotic tension", then I've got news for you: that's degenerate and merely appeals to low human impulses and desires. In Joycean terms, pornographic. Not very patrician if you ask me.

It already has been.

Are you swedish? How much is lost in translation?

No kidding. I was caught completely off guard by that scene the first time I watched it. Didn't expect a Bergman boner.

The best part of this movie was that scene where they talk about that encounter at the beach. You know the one.

>a woman talking to herself and a mute woman for 90 minutes
>literally fucking nothing happens
>a timeless masterpiece

What kind of person do you have to be to enjoy this kind of shit?

Winters light and F&A surpass it without any doubt.

Yeah, they're up to 5 Personas now.

What is the appeal of Fanny and Alexander? It seemed like a sentimental nostalgia trip for the Swedish bourgeoisie and nothing more.

XDDDD LE FUNNY

Haunting and romantic, set in beautiful world and actually kinda spooky

While i generally prefer more substance in my art films (Winter Light and Cries & Whispers for example), Persona hits the nail.
An example of a Persona-similar film that fails is Through a glass darkly.

Also, you absolutely need some background to understand it. I first watched Persona at 19 and all i got was a boner and some nice photography. 10y later it makes much more sense
