Remember the following: >Patricians occasionally read these generals and have posted here before. >Patricians may pretend to be normal users asking for recommendations and when you recommend something, they laugh at you for your plebian taste >This is a thread for patrician purposes only don't offer or expect frivolous discussion.
Finally. I was forced to use Sup Forums and in a thread a few retards called another guy pretentious for liking Hou Hsiao Hsien and Mishima. I had almost forgotten how anti-cinema Sup Forums is.

Anybody else trying to list all the shit they've watched in their lives?

No. I did that once years ago in a notebook. A pretty pointless exercise. On my letterboxd account I only log things I know the date I watched them.

Machill hates every /lbgl poster because you're all shit taste-having contrarians. Machill knows he has far better taste than all of you. That's why he's at the top of the /lbg/ totem pole. He has a Bluray.com account, a home theater, means what he says, and stands his ground. Machill's a man, while you're just boys.

Nice to see you watched La classe américaine, now this is real frenchcore.
Was this your first détournement ? You should check the OSS 117 movies (also made by Haznavicus) if you liked that kind of comedy. Those aren't détournement but it's still a lot of goofy fun.

To get a back drop tho like he was saying is $50, you have to go patron.
But you have to pay it all upfront for a full year's price, that's the issue.

maybe not to's absolute best but definitely his most characteristic film

Mommy was dece, hyped for more dolan kino. I like how self aware he is. I'm sure most people who watched it here thought it was a bit too by the books and the only thing he fucked with was the aspect ratio but I think he was very much aware of how 'generic' everything was which is why he made it feel dated with the aspect ratio, year it was set in and the meta soundtrack.
I should have watched a few more akerman kinos today instead though
Michael Reed
I think Throw Down is his best, or at least it's my favourite. Sparrow is so light and breezy, with the plot being so slight as to feel almost inconsequential. I found this quote from Johnnie To that characterized the film quite well:
>I wanted to make Sparrow to capture the nostalgic mood of the old Hong Kong. This island was a unique city where the culture of the East and the West came together. Through the eyes of the pickpockets, we see a city that is vibrant, warm and beautiful. Musically I wanted a retro sound that would remind people of the way Hong Kong was. I specifically asked for the 'exotic oriental' sound that was popular in Western movie soundtracks in the fifties to accompany Asian settings or characters. My collaboration with Xavier Jamaux in Mad Detective was a fruitful one. His work with Fred Avril in Sparrow captures the feeling I wanted, and also brought out the musical playfulness that was so crucial to my image.
Also, I had no idea this movie was filmed over three years!

yeah I think it was a pet project they did in between other milkyway shoots. i read that he does more commercial films to fund the other stuff. but all of it's amazing anyway.
would like to hear your thoughts on throw down. i liked it but didn't really get it and i wouldn't place it near the top at all. my fav probably is don't go breaking my heart
Luke Carter
We need more posts like this. You guys fell off when it came to shaming embryos.
I definitely have way more watched. I've only logged movies I've watched since the day I started letterboxd which was May 1st, 2015, and that's already 837.

If I had a gun with one bullet in it and was trapped in an elevator with every lbg regular, I'd shoot dropout_gorro in his micro penis and then I would kill the rest of you with my bare hands.

I guess I like the images in Throw Down the best: the smoky jazz club, the video arcade, practicing judo at night in the field of tall grass, the empty judo dojo, Cherrie Yin running down the Hong Kong streets, shedding cash...very memorable.
